In a new interview, Platinum Games co-founder Hideki Kamiya teases the possibility of sequels to Bayonetta 2 and Okami, as well as a possible collaboration with Capcom.

From Death Stranding's unexpected reveal to Sony's surprise announcement that the Crash Bandicoot games are getting remastered, it's probably safe to say that this year's E3 has had its share of surprises. But if a recent interview with Platinum Games co-founder Hideki Kamiya is to be believed, Crash Bandicoot won't be the only dormant franchise that could be unexpectedly revisited.

Speaking to GameCentral at E3, the conversation had drifted to a discussion about hairstyles, and in response to the comment "[Game Central] preferred Bayonetta's first haircut", Kamiya dropped a strong hint that Bayonetta is in the works:

“Then we will take that into account when we design her haircut when we start doing [Bayonetta 3], if we ever make [Bayonetta 3]”

Needless to say, this comment was unexpected and when pressed about the possibility of making Bayonetta 3, Kamiya had a simple and straightforward answer that will undoubtedly please fans of the series:

“Of course we want to make 3. Why should it end at 2?”

Having said that, gamers shouldn't get to excited just yet as when he was asked if he has pitched Bayonetta 3 to publishers yet, Kamiya admitted that he hasn't, but he's "spent a lot of time thinking in [his] head what that game would be".

Immediately after revealing that he has "lots of ideas" for Bayonetta 3, Kamiya immediately one-upped himself by saying that he also has "ideas for Okami 2 was well". At this point, Kamiya revealed that he was wearing a shirt with an Amaterasu-looking wolf on it before joking that he was "stealing Phil's gimmick", undoubtedly an allusion to Xbox boss Phil Spencer's penchant for wearing T-shirts promoting future announcements.

And finally, when asked about the comments he made last year about something "happening between Platinum Games and Capcom", Kamiya replied that he has indeed talked to Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi about a possible collaboration. However, other than revealing that he and Takeuchi go out drinking quite often, Kamiya didn't divulge any details as to whether their discussions will amount to anything.

Kamiya's comments about Bayonetta 3 and Okami 2 are undoubtedly very exciting, but seeing as how they were no more than passing comments, expectations should be kept in check about new entries to the Bayonetta and Okami franchises, especially considering that Platinum Games are currently hard at work on Scalebound.

Given that it's been years since we've seen Amaterasu and Bayonetta in a game that isn't Fallout 4 or Super Smash Bros., and considering that Crash Bandicoot was brought back from the grave against all odds, perhaps it isn't too far-fetched that we may get Bayonetta 3 and Okami 2 at some point in the future. We'll keep you posted on any potential Bayonetta 3 and Okami 2 news and announcements.
