Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, the 11th installment in the main storyline of the Assassin's Creed franchise, gives players a much more massive world to explore. Like the rest of the Assassin's Creed series, Odyssey is another work of art with breathtaking scenery and historically accurate locations. Unlike most games before it, however, every inch of the recreated map of Ancient Greece holds untold stories and hidden treasures.

When it comes to the game's hidden areas, there aren't really any that you won't be able to find. However, there are plenty of locations that were meant to be difficult to find, or just completely mysterious unless you happen to stumble upon them. So, for those less familiar with Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, these are some of the game's more mysterious locations.

Updated July 11, 2021 by Mark Hospodar: The Internet has been abuzz recently with talk concerning Assassin's Creed Infinity. Although hard-and-fast details are still scarce, one thing is seemingly certain: the franchise is going to be shaken up. To what extent the series will change is still up in the air. It seems as though Ubisoft will be experimenting with some form of live-service model in the vein of Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto. The main idea behind this new move is to apparently foster more connectivity and collaboration between players. How this model is going to affect the open-world players are familiar with is tough to say. Assassin's Creed Infinity is still years away from release. Check out this article for more details on what this future title could potentially look like.

12 The Cave Of Kratos

The Cave of Kratos Location From AC Odyssey

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, like the series in general, seeks to bring history to life. Plenty of obvious historical locations can be visited throughout a player's adventures in Greece. One location, however, may not seem so obvious to some fans.

Greece has its fair share of rocky outcrops and mountains. Carved within Mount Parnassos in Phokis lies the Cave of Kratos. Although some players may think to find a God of War reference, it's actually an allusion to a historical event. This cave marks the location where the Persian army outflanked their Greek adversaries at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. A spectacular view awaits on the other side.

11 The Inlet In Pandora's Cove

Breath Of The Wild Korok Easter Egg From AC Odyssey

Much of the land in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey can be considered wild. Exploring the massive areas of the countryside often yields some interesting finds. One small easter egg will no doubt make Nintendo fans very happy.

This is a prime example of an area hidden in plain sight. In the Malis region, sitting atop an unassuming rocky outcrop on the coast of Pandora's Cove is a Legend of Zelda reference. There, they can find a crude statue that looks awfully similar to a Korok from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

10 Underwater

It wasn't long before the franchise started to incorporate an entirely new underwater experience for players. Instead of vast bodies of water just being something assassins would travel across, they now could be explored, with plenty of hidden locations waiting at the bottom of the sea.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey continued to build on that, adding even more explorable underwater areas. All in all, the game features over 40 underwater areas that are technically hidden. Unless you choose to explore them or are directed to one through a mission or side quest, they'll just remain undetected on the ocean floor.

9 Cultist Locations

One of the game's biggest plotlines involves hunting down members of the Cult of Kosmos. To bring the cult down, you have to find every last member, each whose location is a secret. Thus, the whole enterprise is a little easier said than done. The whole point of a secret cult is not to be found, after all.

As you continue to scratch cultists off the list, their hidden locations slowly become revealed. Even though they aren't that difficult to find, they do all have to be sequentially unlocked in order to expose their location. Players will need to look for clues and hunt down less important lieutenants to find the real masterminds.

8 Black Panther Cliffs

Black Panther Easter Egg From AC Odyssey

As stated previously, most Assassin's Creed games are littered with hidden references and easter eggs. Plenty of callbacks to popular movies are included in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. One reference, in particular, should make Marvel fans smile. It can be found in the southern portion of the Messara region, at the top of the Gortyn Waterfall. A Viewpoint is located nearby.

The location is set upon a cliff just like the waterfall arena in Black Pantherwhere T'Challa fought M'Baku, and is one of the game's best-hidden references and coolest locations. To further reinforce the reference, fans may also see two NPCs duking it out.

7 Sword In The Stone

King Arthur Easter Egg From AC Odyssey

Another location that sits in plain sight, but seems like nothing unless you inspect it further, contains another hidden reference. Hidden deep in the skies of Lakonia sits a sword on top of a mountain. Mount Taygetos is an unmistakable location on the world map, but you'd really have no reason to visit the mountain's summit unless you want to find this easter egg.

Trekking up this steep mountain is worth it, however. Besides the amazing view, players will no doubt take notice of the curious position of the aforementioned sword. It's stuck within a stone, completely immovable. This is a clear reference to the King Arthur myth, where the legendary hero pulled Excalibur from a stone.

6 Cyclops Arena

The game is filled, top to bottom, with mythological creatures and the lore of Greek Mythology. One of the unique creatures that players may come across, and one of the only creatures that they battle multiple times in the game, is the legendary Cyclops.

As many who've completed the game know, you run into a Cyclops on more than one occasion. One of the smaller Cyclops battles brings your misthios toe-to-toe with Steropes - The Lightning Bringer. He's hidden away on the island of Andros, the same location as the Ancient Forge, and is actually even more hidden deep within a cave that you must explore to begin the fight.

5 Minotaur Labyrinth

Next on the list of mythical creatures fans take on is the Minotaur. In order to unlock the location of the Minotaur's Labyrinth, you first need to complete the mission "Myths and Minotaurs." This mission kicks off a set of sub-tasks that need to be completed before the showdown with the Minotaur. These tasks fall under the umbrella of the quest titled "Of Minotaurs and Men."

Once these missions have been completed, and the player is around Level 40, The Labyrinth of Lost Souls becomes available to explore. It's located beneath the Knossos Palace in the Minos' Legacy region of Messara. After braving the Labyrinth, players will eventually come face-to-face with this legendary mythological beast.

4 Sphinx Location

It'll take a good deal of work completing several missions before you get to discover the location of the Sphinx. The Sphinx is one of the few mythical beings that you don't just fight and move on from. It actually incorporates some mythological lore into the game too.

The Sphinx's location is hidden for a good portion of the game. You eventually come face-to-face to her on Boeotia, but you'll have to put in some time and effort before you meet her. First, the player must complete the "Lore of the Sphinx Quest." With the missing half of the medallion in hand, fans can start to prepare to face the Sphinx herself in the "Awaken the Myth" quest. The mythical beast can be found by returning to the Lair of the Sphinx on the southern shore of Lake Kopais. Just make sure to answer her riddles correctly!

3 Medusa Location

Greek mythology can't truly be represented properly without the inclusion of Medusa. Like the rest of the mythological creatures in the game, Medusa isn't a character one just stumbles upon. Players must start and complete the quest "Romancing the Stone Garden" to confront Medusa. A recommended level of about 50 is highly encouraged before fighting the fiend.

The fateful climax occurs during the "Writhing Dead" quest. Players will return to the Petrified Valley on the island of Lesbos to complete the mission and fight Medusa. This handy guide will certainly prove useful once the arrows and swords start flying.

2 Cave of The Forgotten Isle

One of the more interesting areas on the map that you'll see early on, but not have full access to, is the Forgotten Isle. Located in the Isle of Thisvi, players will have to be a bit patient before unlocking this particular cave's mysteries.

You can only enter the cave at a much higher level than you'll probably be at the time you initially find it. Once you've reached a higher level, somewhere around level 40, and have completed a string of quests, starting with "A God Among Men," the entrance to the cave will become accessible. A confrontation with a Cyclops will ensue, serving as the climax of the quest "Stairway to Olympos."

1 Atlantis

Last, but not least, is the crème de la crème of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. Basically, the entire game builds up to finding the legendary and hidden city of Atlantis. Once again, patience is required. Players will need to jump through a few hoops before discovering this mythical city.

First, players will need to complete the "United Front" quest as part of the main storyline. After that, the side quest "A Family's Legacy" will need to be completed. Doing so will unlock a huge door beneath the island of Thera. Once that's done, Atlantis ceases to be hidden!
