The rhythm-based third-person action game Hi-Fi Rush is getting its first major update, and along with it comes a new feature that fans of the gorgeously animated game will love. Hi-Fi Rush was surprise-released in January by Bethesda and developer Tango Gameworks with no prerelease marketing ramp-up. It quickly gained a passionate word-of-mouth following, exemplified by its 10/10 rating on Steam and its score of 89 on Metacritic.Hi-Fi Rush lets players control Chai, a kid with dreams of becoming a rock star in a wild sci-fi future overrun by an evil corporation with a legion of robot goons at its disposal. Along the way, Chai is joined by new team members who aid him in battle. Being a rhythm-based action beat ’em up, Chai whacks away at enemies with a guitar along to the beat of the Hi-Fi Rush's killer soundtrack and the physical world that pulsates along with the music. Striking an enemy on beat deals more damage and offers greater rewards that are paid out at the end of every combat encounter. Critics praised the game for its gorgeous art design and addictive gameplay that made it easy for players to enter a flow state.RELATED: Tango Gameworks Founder and CEO Shinji Mikami Announces DepartureHi-Fi Rush players can now create snapshots of the game’s beautiful visuals, as Tango Gameworks has finally added a long-requested Photo Mode. The new mode will allow players to pause the game in the middle of the action to pose Chai and his four buddies however they see fit. The photos can then be edited with filters, camera effects, and frames at the player’s discretion, which players have been demanding since Hi-Fi Rush shadow dropped after an Xbox and Bethesda Developer_Direct showcase. The official Hi-Fi Rush Twitter account also promised to soon launch a photo contest, giving fans the chance to possibly win prizes for snapping the best pictures with the new Photo Mode.

The update also includes fixes for technical issues players have been experiencing in the game. A few “UE4 Fatal Error” bugs have been fixed, along with a fix for a couple of issues that prevented players from progressing the story after a specific set of actions were taken. All told, the update fixes 21 separate problems that should make for a smoother, less buggy experience for a game that didn’t have many bugs when it first hit Steam and Xbox Game Pass.

Hi-Fi Rush’s photo mode will surely help extend the life of a visually stunning game that was met with rave reviews by fans and critics alike. Photo Modes are sometimes released shortly after a game’s initial launch. This was recently the case with God of War Ragnarok’s Photo Mode, which was released a little under a month after Ragnarok hit physical and digital shelves. With a game that’s bursting with style like Hi-Fi Rush, it’s all but guaranteed that social media will soon be flooded with some gorgeously composed pictures that will encourage even more gamers to try this surprise hit.
