Every week, we take a moment to cover a few stories that didn’t make the front page on Game Rant. In this week’s Video Game Round-Up, we discuss news about a Dying Light sequel, an update on Techland’s Hellraid RPG game, a new expansion for Heroes of the Storm, and more.
Below are the stories for this week’s Round-Up:
‘Dying Light’ Developer Teases Sequel
Techland’s first-person zombie action game, Dying Light, continues to do well among gamers, with over 4.5 million unique players. That success has unsurprisingly led the team at Techland to start thinking about a sequel. In fact, Techland’s CEO, Pawel Marchewka, recently commented on the developer’s plans for Dying Light 2:
“Obviously, we’re also thinking about how to think about the sequel, what should happen there. So a lot of talk going on right now.”
Based on that quote, it sounds like a Dying Light sequel is a ways off, so fans of the first game likely won’t hear anything again for a while. However, for those who want more Dying Light now, it looks like the developer is planning a full-blow expansion for the zombie game soon.
Dying Light is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Techland Reveals ‘Hellraid’ Not Canceled, Just Delayed
Techland has built a strong following thanks to the success of their recent zombie thriller, Dying Light. Fans of that game, and Techland’s past games, were excited when the developer announced their first-person RPG game, Hellraid. However, that excitement was dashed when Techland recently revealed the game was on hold.
Luckily, it seems “on hold” doesn’t mean “dead”. Techland announced this past week that they want to keep their focus on Dying Light for now, but that they will eventually come back to Hellraid. Techland CEO, Pawel Marchewka, told Eurogamer:
“Right now we want to concentrate on Dying Light. We wanted to be fair with the fans so we wanted to send a clear message, especially as a lot of the people were expecting new things coming from Hellraid at E3 and Gamescom. We decided to take the pressure away. …. But putting on hold means we want some of the resources to concentrate on Dying Light, and once they do what needs to be done we will come back to Hellraid.”
Blizzard Announces Expansion for Heroes of the Storm
Blizzard isn’t wasting any time building up their new MOBA, Heroes of the Storm. The developer announced a new expansion for the game this week, titled Eternal Conflict. The new expansion will be themed around the Diablo universe, and include a new map and two new characters.
Blizzard’s announcement is a little surprising considering Heroes of the Storm just came out of beta, but it shows the developer’s desire to build a solid following in the face of stiff competition. The MOBA genre continues to grow quickly as games like Dota 2 and League of Legends build in popularity among both hardcore and casual gamers.
It’ll be interesting to see how much market space Heroes of the Storm can acquire and if Blizzard will continue their winning streak with games.
Bravely Second End Layer Coming to North America 2016
The sequel to the popular Nintendo 3DS game, Bravely Default, is coming to North America in 2016. Bravely Second End Layer was released in Japan in April, and features many of the same characters as its predecessor, though it follows a new protagonist.
As with Bravely Default, Bravely Second End Layer will be a turn-based strategy game. No specific release date has been provided yet.
