Sony reveals a new VR horror game called Here They Lie and shows off a mysterious and cryptic trailer. The game will release this fall exclusively for PlayStation VR.
There was an ever present shift of focus to virtual reality games at E3 2016 today, and Sony’s PlayStation lineup was ready for it. Sony announced several different virtual reality titles, but the reveal for Here They Lie seems to have rather quietly found its way online.
The PlayStation VR exclusive title transports players into a horrifying city full of malevolent creatures and nightmarish scenarios, prompting us to believe Here They Lie is a creeping horror title reserved only for the most stalwart Sony players.
The game is the first ever production to stem from Tangentlemen, a small studio comprised staffed by developers who work on games like Call of Duty and Tomb Raider. As the initial trailer below shows, the focus of the game seems to be on setting up a horror-themed atmosphere and playing the long con, rather than going for cheap jump scares. Players will reportedly struggle to choose between life or death moral choices, and the woman in the yellow dressed pictured above will be a central part of the mystery.
Here’s the E3 2016 trailer for Here They Lie:
Plenty of horror staples are present in the video: a stampede of cockroaches streams from behind a mounted photo frame, a garbled figure with antlers and glowing eyes shifts in the darkness, and a woman donned in a dress and a pig mask seems to be desperately scrambling to escape something. We’re not sure exactly what the plot to Here They Lies is, but we’re certainly intrigued by the title. In any event, it’s certainly one of the more curious titles to stem from Sony’s E3 2016 Press Conference.
The PlayStation VR lineup received plenty of high profile boosts from Sony’s conference today, with titles like Resident Evil 7, Batman: Arkham VR, Farpoint, and Final Fantasy 15 all slated to support the Sony’s virtual reality accessory. The long-awaited console-based virtual reality headset finally has a release date, and will launch this October 13. Sony promises to have 50 different virtual reality titles for it by the end of 2016, which would be a very impressive supporting cast of games given the timeframe.
We’ll keep you posted as more news about Here They Lie swoops in from either Sony or Tangentlemen, who rock a website where the only horror to find is its own mid-90s design.
