It's barely been over a month since the third season of Barry aired its last episode, and it appears the HBO show is already back in production. Henry Winkler revealed to fans that they've already started production on the show's next season, and it looks like they're going to pick up right where the show left off.

Winkler shared a selfie of him and Bill Hader on the set of the fourth season of HBO's Barry. While Winkler is in his wardrobe as acting teacher Gene Cousineau, Hader is wearing headphones while still being bearded, much like he was throughout the duration of the show's third season. This would strongly hint that Barry season 4 will resume right where the third season ended.

In the caption, Winkler first shouted out what appears to be a Barry fan page on Twitter while putting out the caption, "FRIST DAY. Season 4." The caption more likely than not is misspelled for "first" in this case. Hader is bearded, which would imply that Barry still hasn't shaved since the end of last season, and Hader wearing the headphones would signify that he is involved in the production behind the scenes, which would make sense since he is the director, writer, and, of course, the star of Barry.

Upon further examination, it appears that the set on which they are filming is in the house of Jim Moss, the father of Janice Moss, who was one of Barry's victims to protect himself from law enforcement. Again, it's a strong hint that the fourth season will begin right as the third season ended. The fact that Winkler is there as Cousineau may be a sign that season 4 starts in a flashback where Cousineau planned his coup with Moss to get Barry arrested to avenge Janice's murder. It could also show Cousineau and Moss talking following Barry's arrest. Since Winkler implied earlier that Barry season 4 will be grim, it should be quite a painful scene.

There are so many possibilities for where the show could go next. Is Barry really going to go to prison, or will he be able to get out if he testifies against Fuches, who was also arrested for his crimes? Is Jim Moss truly a man of principles just bringing swift justice for his tragically murdered daughter, or was his manipulation skills, which were on full display towards the latter end of the show's recent season, an indication of pure evil behind him? Barry took viewers by surprise with the dark tone it had throughout its third season. There's no telling if does get worse as Winkler implied it would or if the show brings back its comedic tone to balance out its darkness.

The show taking such a turn also demonstrates just how fascinating Barry is as an anti-hero. Sure he's a hired hitman, but he only does what he does because it's something he's good at, not because he enjoys it. It makes him a bad person who, much like Walter White or Bojack Horseman, the audience can't help but be invested in because of his relatable desires. His demons caught up with him in the show's last season. The question is, will he atone for his sins or will he only become worse from here?

Barry can currently be watched on HBO Max.
