Henry Cavil plays Geralt, the main character of Netflix’s upcoming The Witcher series, and happens to be a big fan of both the show’s source material (the books) and other adaptations (the games). As such, the actor played through The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and answered the most vital and challenging question the game posed to its players: Yennefer or Triss?

Between both the games and the books, Geralt entertains these two characters as separate love interests, and the games, specifically, allow players to choose which one Geralt will ultimately end up with. In one of his recent interviews, Cavil answered who he picked in the end with a few opinions as to why he did so.

When Omelete, Cavil’s interviewer at CCXP2019, posed the question to Cavil, Cavil told him that he picked Yennefer. He explained that he chose her over Triss because of the way the game’s story portrayed the relationship between Geralt and Yennefer. He says, “there was love there." And while he thought the relationship with Triss was something “powerful and different,” he felt that Geralt’s heart truly belong to Yennefer -- a sentiment that's sure to leave "Team Yennefer" fans delighted.

Yennefer happens to be the canon choice of the series as Geralt ends up with her in the books, but Cavil’s first introduction to The Witcher happened through the video games. Funny enough, most Triss fans claim they choose her over Yennefer for the same reason Cavil picked Yennefer over Triss. They were exposed to the video games first, meaning they didn’t know Geralt and Yennefer’s novel-based relationship going in, so by the end of the game, they felt that Triss presented herself as the better option.

Cavil’s choice turned out to be perfect for him. The show plans to follow the storyline of the books over the video games, and as such, Geralt will ultimately end up with Yennefer. If Cavil believes Yennefer to be the better choice over Triss, then it’ll be easier for him to throw himself more deeply into his role whenever playing out scenes that develop the relationship between the two characters. And who knows, the show will make nods to the games, so maybe when Triss appears, the show will treat Triss fans to a few moments between her and Geralt.

The Witcher television show debuts on Netflix starting December 20. The Witcher 3 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
