With the DCEU's next installment Black Adam coming to theatres in the coming days, there has been much speculation regarding whom the DC anti-hero interacts with should he meet the other supes in the DC Extended Universe. Now it appears that Dwayne Johnson is playing a key role in bringing Henry Cavill back as Superman.

Warner Bros. is reportedly planning to have a Black Adam vs. Superman crossover with every intention of bringing back the previously departed Cavill as Superman to make it happen. This is all despite Cavill not having played Superman since 2017 when he played him in Justice League.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros is very determined to bring Cavill back as Superman for an upcoming Man of Steel sequel. "Under Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and Warner Bros. Pictures' heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, Warners has an intense desire to reprise the Cavill iteration of the hero. The project that would essentially be Man of Steel 2 is being produced by Charles Roven and is currently in a search for writers," reads THR's report. Meanwhile, Johnson has made it clear that he wants the crossover with Superman in the future. "Johnson, however, has Superman plans of his own. He has been very vocal about his desire to make a Black Adam versus Superman movie, a desire he has only reiterated more frequently in the lead-up to Adam. This comes as he talks up his “surprise” cameo at the end of Adam, with the actor all but stating that Cavill will appear."

Nothing has been confirmed regarding if Cavill has officially been signed on, but Warner Bros. has convinced some of its actors to come back after departing the franchise in the past, like Ben Affleck as Batman. Hence, don't be surprised if they can do the same with Cavill. While fans have had issues with how the DCEU has portrayed Superman, the fans definitely grew attached to Cavill as the modern Superman since first playing him in 2013.

Now that the DCEU has more or less figured out how to make entertaining movies with their superheroes, it doesn't hurt to see how Cavill could be utilized now that they have a direction to go in. DC has made more good products than bad ones over the past few years with Wonder Woman, Shazam, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and The Batman. What would excite fans more than having Cavill back would be seeing his iteration of Superman be involved in a well-received movie, especially if that's involved in something new like seeing Superman playing alongside a God like Black Adam.

But, of course, that all depends on if Cavill is okay with coming back. Since last playing Superman, Cavill has kept his star up through his high-profile acting gigs in Mission Impossible - Fallout and The Witcher. Even if the fans want him back and the studios are willing to pay him handsomely for his role, he may have lost interest in playing the character again. While he may have proved he was a good fit as Superman, DC has adequately replaced actors who played their heroes well in the past, like they did with Robert Pattinson as Batman, so who's to say the same can't happen with Cavill?

Black Adam will premiere in theaters on October 22, 2022.
