Henry Cavill's future at DC was recently nixed as part of a creative shake-up at Warner Bros. Discovery. Now, his cameo and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman have been removed from The Flash.

The Flash has been in development for several years now. Its development practically spanned the entire length of the DCEU, and it saw the rise and fall of Warner Bros. Discovery's answer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film appears to be adapting the "Flashpoint" storyline and introducing multiversal travel in the DCEU. For instance, Michael Keaton is set to return as Batman in The Flash.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, which ran an article about why Cavill is no longer Superman, Cavill had shot a cameo appearance in The Flash. Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman, also shot a cameo. Reportedly, both scenes have now been cut. Cavill's cameo was reportedly cut because James Gunn and Peter Safran have decided to reboot the Superman franchise moving forward. Gunn is already writing a script and says it will focus on a younger Clark Kent, just starting as a superhero and as a reporter. Meanwhile, Gadot's cameo was cut because Wonder Woman 3 is no longer moving forward.

This may mean that Gunn and Safran are seeking to reboot the DCEU. The "big three" superheroes at DC are Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. It's now been confirmed that Superman is being recast, and while not much news has come out about Batman, Ben Affleck has reportedly been done with the role for a while. Wonder Woman's recasting isn't confirmed, but it doesn't look like the franchise will be moving forward with her. A few properties may be safe despite the recent shake-up at DC, such as Blue Beetle.

Nothing's confirmed yet, however. The film series appears to be in a state of flux right now, and fans are busy speculating about the future of DC. And though Gunn isn't afraid to interact with DC fans, he has confirmed that his work with Safran is just beginning. No one can tell what the future has in store for DC.

The Flash is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 16, 2023.
