The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl 54 last night, beating out the San Francisco 49ers by 11 points. Some might argue they were aided by a morale boost from English actor-turned-American football enthusiast Henry Cavill, who became his character from Netflix's The Witcher series to post his support for the Chiefs.

Cavill took the guise The Witcher's Geralt of Rivia in order to call upon his fandom to voice support for both the Kansas City Chiefs and England's national rugby team. He told his audience of over 10 million followers on the social media platform that they must go to war on "such an auspicious day," and then afterward drink honeyed beverages to "soothe our throats run ragged from roars of defiance and jubilation alike..."

There was likely less jubilation on behalf of the English rugby team, who lost to France 24-17. However the Chiefs winning football's biggest game of the year (as guessed by EA Sports' annual Madden Super Bowl prediction) certainly warrants celebration on behalf of Cavill, who told Jimmy Kimmel during a press tour for The Witcher that he became interested in the American sport while getting into character as DC's golden boy Superman from 2013's Man of Steel.

Over two weeks ago a fan of The Witcher started a petition on change.org to get "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher" played at the Super Bowl because of Cavill's expressed love for the Kansas City Chiefs. The petition, addressed to the NFL and Netflix, has gone on to receive 1,348 signatures as of this writing.

Anyone who watched the massive sporting event will know that the song by Joey Batey's bard character Jaskier was noticeably absent from the halftime show dominated by Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. If anything, the Planters' bizarre Baby Nut Super Bowl ad is arguably the game's biggest meme-worthy takeaway.

The fact that this petition made any traction at all, however, is a clear indication of how big an impact Cavill has made starring in Netflix's adaptation of a Polish fantasy novel series already made popular by CD Projekt Red's video games. He has been incredibly open with fans about the impending production of season two, and has answered questions from season one like the alterations made to The Witcher's famous bathtub scene.

While the Super Bowl did not have a homage to Cavill, that his support for the Chiefs was ultimately rewarded is heartwarming to all but the most die-hard 49ers fans. Here's hoping he got his hands on those honeyed beverages too.

The Witcher is available to stream now on Netflix.
