A glimpse at Henry Cavill's audition for Superman has been unveiled to the world in the form of a screen test image. The photo shows Cavill in the iconic Christopher Reeve Superman suit during the audition process in late 2010 to early 2011.

Cavill is known as an actor who takes his roles very seriously. The actor is often looked at as an example of being able to gain muscle and get himself in shape all for the sake of playing a character. What's interesting is that before he was unveiled to the world as Superman, Cavill always talked about himself as "not looking the best" prior to auditioning for the role.

Henry Cavill said to The Hollywood Reporter, "If I’m going to be honest, what was going through my mind was, ‘Lord, I’m too fat to be wearing this suit right now'...All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready." Prior to auditioning for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, Cavill was just finishing up filming The Cold Light of Day, which required him to lose the muscle he had gained from filming the Immortals movie. Speaking to Time in 2013 Cavill said, "I was coming off a movie where I had to be out of shape, and then I had gone through Christmas, so I was extra out of shape."

Cavill felt very uncomfortable during the audition and screen testing process to play the next Superman."It was totally embarrassing. I wasn't in training. I wasn't feeling fit or looking good...I just thought, Okay, I'm not getting this job. I'm fat Superman. It'll be some really in-shape dude that when they step out they look amazing," he said to GQ in 2013. Fortunately for Cavill, he managed to get the role and into shape just in time, which changed the trajectory of his career from that point forward.

These images are cool gems for fans of DC comic books, especially for those who love to be able to see how things got started for Man of Steel. The images are a peek behind the curtain of the making of the film, which fans don't get to see too often.

Hopefully, fans get to see Cavill return for the role of Superman in an upcoming live-action DC movie. Maybe fans will get to see Superman fight Black Adam, or potentially see another Batman and Superman team-up in the DCEU. Regardless, there are a lot of stories left to be told that fans never got a chance to see.

Various Superman films are available to stream on HBO Max.
