Marvel's Helstrom is an unusual show from an awkward transition in the company's history. It was originally announced in 2019 alongside several other projects, including a Ghost Rider reboot, but come 2020, Helstrom was the only project announced by Marvel Television to survive its shuttering. As the company restructured and phased out Marvel Television, Helstrom was the only show to continue on, mostly due to the fact that was already in development. It wasn't much of a redemption arc though, as Helstrom has officially been cancelled by Hulu after its first, and only, season.

The show was based on the Hellstrom siblings from Marvel Comics. The Son of Satan comic featured Daimon Hellstrom as the literal son of Satan. He was never a breakout star but was popular enough to become a recurring character in the Marvel Comics universe, eventually introducing his sister, Satana Hellstrom. On Hulu, the premise was slightly different, with the Helstrom kids as the children of a serial killer, both of whom have supernatural powers. It was the last live-action Marvel show to debut on a service other than Disney+, and marks the end of the era where Marvel TV lived in a strange gray area of continuity.

Originally, Marvel Television had an awkward relationship to the movies. While shows like Daredevil and Agents of Shield were allowed to reference and be influenced by the films, the movies never returned the favor. No matter what happened in the Marvel shows, they could not interfere with events of the Marvel films, and therefore, they tended to feature smaller heroes involved in more local conflicts that wouldn't raise eyebrows in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the new slate of Marvel shows being direct tie-ins to the films however, it seems that the future of the MCU will be very heavily influences by the shows made available on Disney+.

It isn't entirely over for Marvel projects on other streaming platforms though. Marvel's M.O.D.O.K and Hit Monkey animated TV shows are still scheduled for release on Hulu, though the larger four-series crossover they were to be part of has been scrapped. Regardless, this isn't the end of Marvel TV shows, just a new beginning for the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Helstrom is currently available on Hulu.
