If you didn’t get around to checking out Heavy Rain the first time around, nobody would blame you, it wasn’t really a commercial success. Thankfully, though, the critical success and cult status the title has achieved fueled sales enough to warrant another release of the game under the PlayStation Greatest Hits banner.

But this new version of Heavy Rain isn’t simply the retail copy at a discounted price, this is being touted as the Director’s Cut. While how closely David Cage worked with the title is unclear, the Director's Cut does boast some new items like DLC, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and a soundtrack.

Heavy Rain: Director’s Cut comes with:

  • Complete, original game, Heavy Rain
  • Heavy Rain Chronicles: Episode 1 — The Taxidermist DLC
  • Heavy Rain Original Videogame Score by award-winning film and television composer, Normand Corbeil (16 tracks)
  • New front-end menu and interface with built-in Move support
  • A series of 8 “Making of” Bonus Videos
  • Three Dynamic Themes (Heavy Rain, Heavy Rain ARI Forest, Heavy Rain ARI Mars)
  • 15 additional pieces of new concept art
  • 2 bonus Trailers (Thank You Trailer, Love Trailer)

The fully featured game is set to release next Tuesday, November 8th, and as a thank you to fans of the wholly unique title, Sony is making available a new dynamic theme. This dynamic theme depicts one of the Origami Killer’s crime scenes being investigated by Norman Jayden, the FBI profiler who rounds out the quartet of protagonists.

If you’ve yet to check out Heavy Rain, we highly recommend you give the title a chance. While the concept might seem a bit “out there” at first, once the gestural mechanics (whether with the controller or PlayStation Move) sink in it becomes something truly unique.

Though a sequel isn’t in the cards for developer Quantic Dream, Heavy Rain will still remain a standout amidst Sony’s long list of popular franchises. And now, with this Director’s Cut, a whole new set of gamers will be able to experience this game.

Are there any gamers out there who have been curious to try Heavy Rain, but never gave it a chance? For those who have played the game, care to share your thoughts on it?

Heavy Rain: Director’s Cut releases November 8, 2011 for the PS3.
