We Want To Play This ‘Game of Thrones’ Version of ‘Hearthstone’

By | 2 years ago

Ever since its official debut more than two months ago, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft has brought a resurgence to the collectible card game craze. The game has amassed a huge following, not dissimilar to a certain popular television series on HBO. With that in mind, something special came from a creative Hearthstone fan this weekend – an awesome combination between two popular intellectual properties. Hearthstone, meet Game of Thrones.

Reddit user Randomnate stated he wanted to ‘combine his obsessions’, and he did just that with gusto: he created 31 completely customized Hearthstone cards, albeit with Game of Thrones characters, which were met with positive feedback on the popular website. The cards not only feature deathrattles, battlecries and attributes fitting their respective characters, but also look like they’d be a ton of fun to play for hours on end. Here’s the entire collection in all its glory – click a card to bring it up into full view!

Spoiler Warning: Some of these cards hint at events from up to Season 3 of Game of Thrones.

Blizzard has been hard at work expanding the realm of Hearthstone, bringing it to the iPad and now potentially next-generation consoles as well. While other Blizzard games like StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 have a collection of various game-changing mods, Hearthstone has yet to see – or officially support – these kinds of user-created content. Perhaps because it’s a free-to-play game monetized on in-game purchases of additional card packs. Blizzard traditionally helps creative user modifications receive attention, but obviously these kinds of combinations would be subject to huge legality and rights issues, as fun as they would be to play.

Despite this, card games are the perfect canvas for user-created content and we’re excited to see what other ideas people cook up. Perhaps one day unofficial Hearthstone modifications will be able to placed in the game itself, and we can send our heroes off to Westeros and beyond.

What do you think, Ranters? Would you play a Game of Thrones version of Hearthstone? Is such a mod possible?
