During yesterday's BlizzCon 2019 opening ceremony, Blizzard made several big announcements that are certain to have many fans very excited about the future. These announcements included details on Diablo 4, Overwatch 2, and a forthcoming World of Warcraft expansion, and the developer had some news for Hearthstone fans as well. Specifically, Blizzard took the opportunity to reveal Descent of Dragons, the next Hearthstone expansion, which will be available on December 10.
Hearthstone's Descent of Dragons marks the end of the game's Year of the Dragon, and it will take fans to Dragonblight, an area that World of Warcraft players will be quite familiar with indeed. As many fans are likely to expect, Descent of Dragons puts a heavy emphasis on dragons, with the powerful Galakrond acting as one of the centerpieces of the expansion. Some interesting information was revealed about Galakrond during yesterday's presentation, including the fact that there will be a version of this new hero card available to each of the five E.V.I.L. classes.
Furthermore, Galakrond features an entirely new Hearthstone keyword that fans can look forward to experimenting with when Descent of Dragons is released. This new keyword is Invoke, and it allows fans to upgrade their Galakrond by playing other Invoke cards. Notably, this upgrading can occur even before this powerful Hearthstone card has even been played.
The E.V.I.L. classes are not the only ones receiving new cards to be excited about in Descent of Dragons, though, as Druid, Hunter, Mage, and Paladin will all be getting their first exposure to Side Quests. These cards function similarly to Hearthstone's Quests, requiring players to fulfill a set criteria in order to trigger an effect, but two copies of a Side Quest can be put into a deck, and fans will not start a match with these cards in their opening hands.
Indeed, this is just the beginning of what Descent of Dragons will bring to the table, as the expansion will feature 135 cards in total. A number of these cards were shown during yesterday's presentation, and fans that may be looking to occupy themselves now that Hearthstone's Doom in the Tomb event has ended can certainly expect many more to be revealed before the expansion is released later this year.
