BlizzCon 2021 officially transitioned Hearthstone into the Year of the Gryphon and introduced fans to new upcoming content for the game. Along with the addition of a new Core Set in Hearthstone that is free to obtain for anyone, the Forged in the Barrens expansion will make its debut on March 30. Blizzard has now added to the list of things available to players when the expansion drops, and this addition is a new cosmetic card tier, Diamond.

The Forged in the Barrens expansion adds new cards to the game and also introduces a new mode called Hearthstone Mercenaries where players can fight in roguelike missions to earn rewards. Some of the new cards include 10 Legendary Mercenary minions whose stories will be revealed as part of expansion gameplay. Two of these Legendary Minions, Blademaster Samuro and Bru'kan, will receive the Diamond skin option, but there are certain tasks players must do in order to obtain them.

The Diamond card skin in Hearthstone comes with new 3D card animations and a unique border to specify it as a Diamond card. The character art for Blademaster Samuro and Bru'kan will now stick out the sides of the card, adding a neat visual effect. These cards don't introduce a new rarity tier, they only function as a cosmetic upgrade. Diamond Blademaster Samuro is obtainable simply through buying the Forged in the Barrens Tavern Pass and then claiming the card off of the Rewards Track.

Diamond Bru'kan will be a bit more difficult to obtain. To get him, players will have to complete the Forged in the Barrens Legendary Collector achievement by collecting all Legendary cards from the set. The average amount of Legendary cards for a new expansion is 25, so players will probably be spending quite some time trying to get all the cards required to unlock the skin.

There are some incentives for Hearthstone players to purchase the Tavern Pass and immediately get Diamond Blademaster Samuro, including a better Rewards Track as they progress through the Forged in the Barrens Expansion. There aren't any incentives for grinding to get Diamond Bru'kan other than the card skin itself, but if players get bored they can jump into the Mercenaries Mode in Hearthstone for a change of pace.

Hearthstone is available on Mobile and PC.
