Barry is finally coming back. HBO's dark comedy series about a hitman who just wants to act (for those who haven't seen it, no, that isn't an exaggeration) is finally clawing its way out of the pitch-black depths of delays and offering fans the tiniest glimpse at what its next season has to offer. After the massive cliffhanger thrust onto viewers at the end of season 2, there's bound to be plenty of good old-fashioned drama and despair in store.

The official HBO Twitter account shared a rather lighthearted-looking photo from the set of Barry while simultaneously confirming that the show is currently filming its 3rd season, and devoted fans of the show will likely note how bittersweet the picture is when juxtaposed with how the previous season ended. The shot features Bill Hader (main character Barry Berkman) and Hollywood's most pleasant human Henry Winkler (acting coach Gene Cousineau) sporting big smiles for the camera, though the background seems to look like the kind of set where an action-heavy (and not very happy) scene may occur.

Fans of Barry have had a pretty rough go for a while now. After season 2 ended on its aforementioned brutal cliffhanger, viewers have now been waiting 2 years for the highly-awaited continuation. But as many who have never seen their pizza delivery arrive late will say, good things come to those who wait. That appears to be especially true here, as Hader himself has confirmed that not only is Barry's 3rd season in development, but it's also already gotten its entire 4th season scripted out (kind of like how the football-challenged Ted Lasso already has another season ordered). So hopefully this means delays will be less of an issue for the near future.

Barry stars Hader as the previously mentioned Barry Berkman, a Cleveland hitman who takes a contract in Los Angeles only to discover that he actually really wants to become an actor. But unfortunately for him, the life of an assassin isn't one that can be so easily left behind. Hounded by his former partner Fuches (Stephen Root) and affable Chechen mafia member NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan), he fights against the forces pulling him back to his old life, hoping he can just move on. Don't worry, it's funnier than it sounds.

Viewers were caught by surprise when Barry first premiered, with many not knowing what to expect and then suddenly watching a surprisingly deep, dark, and often hilarious show. Among numerous other nominations and awards, Hader and Winkler both won Emmy awards for their performances while the series itself has raked in a number of accolades for its writing and execution. So it's no wonder everyone has been on the edge of their seats waiting for the next season. Hader really has come a long way from playing God of War with Conan O'Brien, hasn't he?

Thankfully, it seems as though the wait may soon be over, though folks will still have to stand by while filming finishes up. But for the time being, it's certainly been long enough since Barry premiered that a rewatch may be in order. So grab some snacks (and maybe some tissues) and get some binge on.

Season 3 of Barry is in production, though there is currently no confirmed release date.
