After a several month delay, HBO's spooky new limited run series Third Day has finally received a new release date. Split up into two chunks of three episodes apiece, the show premieres on September 14th on both HBO and HBO Max.

The previous trailer for Third Day was uploaded back in April, a month before the expected launch, revealing that the series had been delayed with no new date besides a vague "Fall." Now it seems that things are finally set in stone, with just over a month's wait left for the anthology to officially drop.

The show itself is split into two parts titled "Summer" and "Winter". In the first half we meet Sam (Jude Law), a man who finds himself on a mysterious island populated by villagers determined to protect their way of life from outsiders. HBO's synopsis continues: "Isolated from the mainland, Sam is unable to leave the idyllic and dangerously enchanting world he has discovered, where the secretive rituals of its inhabitants bring him to grapple with experiences of loss and trauma hidden in his past through the distorted lens of the present."

Following those three episodes, the focus switches to Helen (Naomie Harris). Helen is, as described by HBO, "a strong-willed outsider who comes to the island seeking answers, but whose arrival precipitates a fractious battle to decide its fate as the lines between fantasy and fact are distorted." While it is currently unclear what connection the two stories will have to each other, there is almost certainly going to be some interesting crossover for viewers to chew on.

Third Day is being co-produced by HBO and Sky, and represents the first original drama produced by Sky Studios. Other partners include Plan B Entertainment, immersive theater company Punchdrunk, and writer Dennis Kelly. The show represents an unusual format compared to most television shows, and presents an interesting hook for those who may be looking for something unique to watch this coming September. Hopefully it will deliver on its narrative promise, and spooky potential, when it finally releases on HBO.

Third Day will be premiering on  HBO and HBO Max September 14th.
