HBO Max just dropped the first trailer for its upcoming spinoff Peacemaker, and it's somehow exactly what one would expect while also exceeding those expectations. Guns? Check. Classic rock? Check. Dancing in underwear? Check. But that's just the superficial (albeit no less important) stuff. This trailer is bursting at the seams with plenty of new info regarding the new series, though the matter of parsing it all is another issue entirely.

The John Cena-led series looks to be carrying on the extremely distinct feel of its predecessor, The Suicide Squad, right down to its soundtrack. That makes sense, of course, given how James Gunn was in charge of both productions. The film excelled with its ensemble cast and their interactions, and now Peacemaker looks to be continuing that trend with a whole new group of trigger-happy misfits to back up Cena's titular vigilante.

"What separates us from other killers is we only kill bad people," utters new masked character Vigilante, adding "...usually... unless there's a mistake," as if to really drive home what Peacemaker is all about. Arrow fans may remember the character from one of the CW show's later seasons, albeit with a much less affable attitude. He'll be played by Freddie Stroma, known for his role as Cormac McLaggen in the later Harry Potter films. Other "new" faces include the return of Steve Agee as tech guy John Economos and Jennifer Holland as NSA agent Emilia Hardcourt, both of whom reprise their roles from The Suicide Squad. They'll be joined by Orange Is the New Black's Danielle Brooks as new recruit Leota Adebayo.

Terminator 2's Robert Patrick also makes an appearance as Peacemaker's father Auggie Smith, showing up just long enough to give viewers a glimpse at the kind of person behind the childhood of a man whose mantra is "I cherish peace with all my heart. I don’t care how many men, women, and children I need to kill to get it." But don't worry, the mood only gets brought down for a brief moment before shooting back up into the territory of hugging a bald eagle and telling stories about "butt babies" (yes, both of those things happen in the trailer).

Eager fans have plenty to look forward to, especially those who thought that The Suicide Squad was just not enough. Peacemaker looks to have a bountiful amount of what made the movie a hit, and it may even take things a few steps further if the trailer is any indication. Of course, none of that will be for sure until the series drops.

Luckily, there isn't that much longer to wait. Well, there's at least not much longer in the grand scheme of things. It'll still take a couple of months. But hey, absence makes the heart grow fonder, or at least more violent. In the end, isn't that what it's all about?

Peacemaker will stream on HBO Max starting January 13th.
