Clint Barton has made a name for himself in the Marvel franchise since he appeared in the original Avengers movie. He never takes anything too seriously, frequently making sarcastic comments or humorous quips in the heat of battle, seeming very much like the overworked father he is. Clint’s guidance will extend beyond his own kids and the rest of the Avengers team as he takes new archer Kate Bishop under his wing.

Fans of Black Widow will also know that the post credits scene for the movie revealed Yelena Belova will be taking it upon herself to exterminate Clint to recompense for the death of her sister, Natasha. Although fans didn’t get a glimpse of Yelena in the first Hawkeye trailer, there’s still plenty of easter eggs and MCU references scattered throughout the two minute video Marvel released this week.

Clint’s Avengers: Endgame Killing Spree

Natasha’s death in Avengers: Endgame isn’t the only part of the movie that will come black to haunt Clint in Hawkeye. Fans know that after the snap, Clint started masquerading as a man named Ronin and turned to a life of killing. He did so to cope with the fact that his family had been dusted, leaving him without his wife and children for five years.

The Hawkeye trailer shows a news broadcast that mentions a “mysterious vigilante” who attacks bad guys lurking in the underbelly of society, proving this complicated piece of Clint’s history won’t be erased so easily. Although he’s managed to stow his homicidal urges away, it’s very clear that the archer isn’t allowed to move on from his past just yet.

Lucky the Dog

Lucky the dog was first introduced in the Hawkeye comics, originally going by the name Arrow before he was adopted and given a new name by Clint. He’s known for his love of pizza and missing eye, which he lost while saving Clint’s life. Lucky also has a special bond with Kate Bishop in the Marvel Comics, making this the perfect time for the MCU to finally bring the archers’ lovable canine friend onboard.

The Tracksuit Mafia

The group of guys dressed in red tracksuits are much more than meets the eye. For starters, they’re the ones responsible for maiming poor Lucky during their failed attempt to take Clint’s life. This comfortably dressed gang is best known as the Tracksuit Mafia, or Tracksuit Draculas, whose only goal seems to be putting an end to Clint Barton once and for all. They made numerous attempts on his life during the Marvel Comics, and even hired an assassin to do the job for them when they couldn’t succeed. The Tracksuit Draculas are over the top and a little bit corny, but the threat they’ll pose for Clint and Kate during the Hawkeye series is definitely no joke.

Captain America: The Musical

rogers the musical

In the Captain America: The First Avenger movie, Steve Rogers leaps into heroism after a brief stint as a glorified showgirl. Before he risked his life to save others, Rogers sang and danced his way across America, encouraging folks to support the war effort, without doing any of the actual fighting.

The Hawkeye trailer references this pretty early on and posters are seen all over New York, advertising “Rogers: The Musical,” which supposedly details Steve’s life as Captain America. Later in the trailer, fans get a glimpse of the musical performance, where one actor takes center stage holding the infamous Captain America shield as the rest of the Avengers, including Hawkeye, gather behind him. Even after all he’s done to save the world, it seems as if Cap will never be able to escape his performative past.

Clint’s Hearing Aid

Throughout his appearances in Marvel Comics, Clint has struggled with poor hearing and almost total deafness as the result of a super-sonic battle with Mockingbird. The comics have depicted his hearing issues for quite some time, but that portion of his character was never brought to life on screen in the MCU, until now. The Hawkeye trailer includes a quick shot of Clint with his hearing aid in and fans are excited to see that the MCU is finally stepping up to give the deaf community more representation in the franchise. Although it’s currently unclear how Clint lost his hearing in the MCU, this detail will undoubtedly play an important role in his development for the series.

The Hawkeye trailer matches the tone of it’s protagonist in all the right ways, promising family fun, comedic relief and a boatload of action. It’ll be tough to follow the success of Loki, WandaVision or The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but so far, Hawkeye is gearing up to be the perfect holiday series fans didn’t know they needed. As Marvel carries on the story of one of its longest-remaining heroes, while introducing new ones, the future of the MCU has never looked better.

Hawkeye premieres November 24th on Disney Plus.
