It's nearly impossible to bring up films in any context without touching on the subject of Marvel movies and their colossal hold on the industry these days. But while the action of this ever-growing franchise tends to be front and center when it comes to bringing audiences back for more, there are other elements that keep their hooks in viewers. One such aspect is dialogue, and according to Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld, that's often their favorite parts of filming.

It looks as though fans will soon enjoy yet another example of this when Hawkeye premieres on Disney Plus in only a few days. In a recent interview, the show's 2 leads spoke about their experiences shooting the series as well as other interesting tidbits, and the subject eventually moved to those more subdued character moments in between all the big fight scenes. Based on their answers, it's pretty clear where some of Hawkeye's most engaging moments will take place.

While talking with Collider about the upcoming series, Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye) went into detail about how its TV show format is uniquely suited to explore the more character-driven aspects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "When you have 6 hours," Renner said, "you do a lot more; you spend a lot more time with character development. This is why people really love the long-form storytelling [of television]; they get much more invested in the characters."

Interviewer Steve Weintraub then brought the idea to co-star Hailee Steinfeld (Kate Bishop), asking her what it was like filming the character-driven scenes between her and Renner. "It's part of what I think I was so drawn to with this, that groundedness," Steinfeld said. "The reality of a lot of what they're going through is humorous. It's also tragic, which is where a lot of the humor comes from. But I loved that. Any time I get to sink my teeth into a moment like that, it's a dream, and on top of it, we do get the crazy, epic, adventure and action that sort of ties it all in and balances it all out."

Hawkeye is just the latest in Marvel Studios' rising library of Disney Plus shows, which also includes future releases like She-Hulk with Tatiana Maslany in the title role and the much further off Ms. Marvel starring Iman Vellani. But the point of that particular interview topic still stands for each of them. A series does, indeed, offer plenty more opportunities for character growth and development rather than the much more compact format of movies.

Of course, whether those character moments amount to something really worthwhile will only be known once the series drops, and that day is almost here. Luckily, both Renner and Steinfeld have proven for years now that they're each up for the task, so one can only imagine they've got this down as a duo.

Hawkeye premieres on November 24th, 2021, on Disney Plus.
