Hawken Mech Combat FPS Announcement Trailer

It's not often that indie developed games really stand out as being truly exceptional, so when one does, everyone notices. Enter Hawken, a first person shooter mech combat game from indie developer Adhesive Games. For their first foray into game devlopment, the Los Angeles based developer has decided that they don't just want to make ripples in the gaming world, they want to make waves.

With the announcement of their very first video game comes a trailer that will make you believe that Call of Duty and Battlefield are going to have some serious competition down the stretch if Adhesive Games can live up to their name and make this game stick (couldn't resist).

Ignore the stuttering in the trailer, it's just  a result of the game footage being captured during network multiplayer matches from a spectator view.

Adhesive Games describes their indie mech combat game as such:

"Hawken is a multiplayer mech combat game. The focus is on creating an intense and enjoyable battle experience that captures the feeling of piloting a heavy war machine while keeping the action fast-paced and strategic."

While the trailer doesn't show much first person gameplay footage - just a short clip near the end - it's immediately apparent that the game's combat will be frantic, and full of flying projectiles. It's not clear what the developer means about the gameplay being strategic, but hopefully this means more than just team-based combat.

The trailer shows that the mechs will be able to command different weapons systems, but whether or not that will come in the form of different mechs players can choose from, or a system for customizing their own personal mech is yet to be seen.

Hawken will feature two unique multiplayer modes which will come alongside the always standard team deathmatch and free for all modes.

The environments look incredible and rightfully so as the game is being developed with Epic Game's Unreal Engine. Along with the trailer come a few combat screenshots that really show off the environments in what could be this year's most gorgeous indie title.

A gameplay footage trailer which demonstrates the first person view players will be seeing is supposed to be released "soon" so hopefully we won't be waiting too long to get a proper look at what we'll be seeing as players in the game. With a little luck it will shed some light on the aforementioned customization question.

Hawken is due for release "when it's done" for whatever platform Adhesive Games can get it out on. The developer has made it clear that intended platforms are the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
