Horror fans ravenously dug into the Netflix anthology series The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Both seasons took a unique approach to telling ghost stories, and were also able to build those tales around relatable characters. Unfortunately, though, it doesn't seem like there will be a new haunting any time soon, as series creator Mike Flanagan indicated on his Twitter account.

In response to a question regarding the possibility of a third season, which would likely be yet another standalone tale, the Doctor Sleep director said there were "no plans" for any future chapters of the show. He indicated that there is a full slate of projects coming from Intrepid Pictures, including an adaptation of the Midnight Club book series by Christopher Pike, as well as another new Netflix series entitled Midnight Mass. All hope is not lost, though, for Haunting fans. In his tweet, Mike Flanagan also wrote, "Never say never, of course," and said that if anything changed he would let everyone know.

A number of Mike Flanagan's projects have found a home on Netflix since 2016, when the streamer became the home for his thriller Hush. That movie focused on a deaf woman played by Flanagan's wife, Kate Siegel (who also co-wrote the screenplay and appeared in both Hill House and Bly Manor), as she is hunted by a killer in her isolated cabin. Other movies by the director, including Before I Wake and the Stephen King adaptation Gerald's Game, were also released on Netflix.

The Haunting Of Bly Manor was loosely based on Henry James's The Turn Of The Screw. The central story of a governess being hired to look after two children in a large home, only to experience paranormal events is present in both. However, the series updated the story from the Victorian era to the 1980s and added a number of other elements to flesh things out. Like Hill House before it, Bly Manor played with timelines and unconventional storytelling to make everything feel just a bit more unnatural.

Considering the time of year, the announcement of a new horror project may not be exciting to people (except for those who enjoy scary things any time, even at Christmas), but even without the prospect of a third Haunting season, it's good to know that Flanagan will be keeping busy, and applying his skills to further horror projects.

The Haunting Of Bly Manor is available to stream on Netflix.
