Being a Twitch streamer seems like a great way to earn money and fame with a relatively low barrier for entry. However, it’s not always the dream job it seems like, as has been seen recently from various streamers jumping ship from Twitch.

Hasan Piker is the latest to express frustrations and revealed that he’s considering departing, at least temporarily, from the platform. The popular Twitch streamer cited hostile elements inside his community as the main problem. This reportedly included multiple incidents of doxing, harassment, and swatting targeted at Hasan and his family.

Hasan expressed his understandable frustrations during a stream on October 28. “It’s not a joke,” he said when one member of his community asked the streamer if he was being serious. “I’m very close to quitting streaming for a little bit… These past couple of days, I’ve been thinking about it. It doesn’t feel good when I stream anymore.” He then pulled a comment out of the live chat and used it as an example of his hostile community.

Hasan complained about the amount of stress his community puts him through, saying he has trouble sleeping and constantly feels angry, lashing out at those around him. Part of this stems from the fact he thinks he can no longer speak honestly with his community. “It’s like everything I say can and will be used against me,” the streamer said in frustration. He lays much of the blame on who he called “deranged and delusional” individuals that seem determined to drag everyone down to their level. Hasan says that new ones seem to appear faster than he can ban their accounts.

The 30-year old Twitch streamer also revealed that he’d been repeatedly doxed and swatted before reiterating his constant frustration. A visibly upset Hasan brought that up again during a stream on October 29. According to Hasan, he’s had swat teams called to his house by deranged trolls, a dangerous prank that’s gotten multiple people injured or killed over the years. Hasan also revealed that multiple members of his family had faced harassment due to his toxic fanbase.

The content creator has been the focus of online controversy ever since purchasing a $2.7 million house earlier this year. Hasan is a highly political streamer who’s heavily critical of billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Hasan faced accusations of hypocrisy from both political opponents and professional rivals. Some people, such as fellow streamer Asmongold, have defended Hasan. His supporters argue that Hasan’s financial success does not automatically contradict any of the streamer’s political views. Nevertheless, Hasan faced death threats over purchasing the pricy Los Angeles property. The recent Twitch leak has inflamed things further, despite valid criticisms of the leak’s accuracy.

Regardless of what one thinks of Hasan as a person, streamer, or political pundit, the harassment he receives goes far beyond what anyone should consider appropriate. It’s thus not surprising that the Twitch streamer is considering taking a step back from the platform.
