In Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, casting spells well is hugely important to finding success in the game. Dealing with Confoundables uses up Spell Energy and the more times that the player has to cast the spell and successfully send the Foundable back to where it's supposed to be, the more Spell Energy that will use.

The way to save Spell Energy is to cast better spells. When dealing with Counfoundables, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will show players a metre that tells them how good their casting of that spell is. The meter goes from Fair, which is the weakest cast of a spell, to Good, then Great, and then Masterful which is the very best spell cast that a player can do.

Accurately tracing the spell when it shows up on screen is only partially important and isn't the only way to affect how well a spell has been cast. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite seems to hold the speed at which a player has cast a spell as more important than the accuracy. In Game Rant's tests of this, it seemed to matter much less if the tracing of a spell had gone out of the lines or didn't look right if we'd done it quickly.

The meter in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is also timed, which means that players can turn a badly traced spell into a Masterful spell if they've done it quickly. If the first spell was Good, cast the second spell quick enough and the game will sort of add the two together, turning the cast into an incredibly powerful Masterful spell that is super effective against a Confoundable. It will also help a player to save their Spell Energy.

By casting better spells, players can also deal with more Confoundables in a shorter time and they won't have to wait as long to get more Spell Energy. Players who have increased their Spell Energy capacity can cast spells and deal with Confoundables for much longer too.

The spell casting gameplay isn't totally explained in the game. Just like the Portkey and Portmanteau game mechanic and the Dark Detectors, there are some parts of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite that players are just left to try and understand, without much help from the game's NPCs.

What is positive, however, is that those who can't gain the hang of spellcasting in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite can get free Spell Energy in other ways, allowing them to keep trying until they learn how to cast better spells. Developer Niantic has just given all players of the new mobile game free energy and the game now offers more Spell Energy rewards for visiting locations such as Inns.
