For more than a year, Pokemon GO developer Niantic has been teasing its next major release, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. However, the upcoming augmented reality game only received its very first trailer around four months ago and this video was very brief and very vague. With such little shown of the game, some fans were unsure of how far into development it is.

In a new interview, Kevin Tsujihara, the CEO of Warner Bros. (the company owns the rights to the Harry Potter license) confirmed that the game is aiming for a summer release date. The executive told the Los Angeles Times that out of all of Warner Bros.' upcoming technology projects, the Niantic game is the "closest" to release. Tsujihara didn't provide an exact release date or even release month for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, but it at least gives fans of J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World a better idea of when to expect the game.

This means that the next few months may include lots of new, concrete information drops about the game. Niantic has only hinted at Harry Potter: Wizards Unite gameplay in interviews and teaser trailers but fans may finally get to see the game in action.

In one teaser video, the developer hinted at the "magic at large" that players could come across, including Nimbus broomsticks that fly without riders and magical creatures causing havoc. The core idea behind Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is that players will have to locate (and deal with) magical occurrences like this in order to stop the public from learning about the wizarding world. Niantic will have plenty more examples of magic at large up its sleeves, ready to show off.

Niantic has also confirmed that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will feature some "iconic" characters from the Harry Potter franchise. Some of the most well-known characters include Harry, Hermione, and Ron as well as their teachers, Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, and Minerva McGonagall. However, it has yet to be confirmed just how many of these characters from the popular fantasy franchise will feature.

Another big question about the game's release is how the game will be made available. Rumors suggested that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite could be exclusive to Samsung devices. If such a deal is in place then Samsung users could get to play it in summer 2019 as Tsujihara said, while those on other, non-Samsung Android devices and iPhones will have to wait.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is planned for release in 2019 for mobile devices.
