It's not secret that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Pokemon GO share the same DNA. The two Niantic games are actually a bit more different than many players expected, which is probably a good thing in the long run, but the core idea and mechanics are still in place for both titles (and for Ingress, which preceded both of them). With that in mind, it's not surprising that Harry Potter Wizards Unite is rolling out another in-game item with that seems heavily Pokemon GO-inspired.

Nearly every Pokemon GO player should be aware of Incense, one of the game's least useful items. When put up against Super Incubators, Lucky Eggs, Lures, or Star Pieces; Incense is pretty much always the least attractive item in any special box in the in-game store. Incense in PoGO helps attract additional Pokemon that only the Incensed player is able to see and interact with. Wizards Unite now has a new potion that has a very similar effect.

The new item in Wizards Unite is called the Tonic for Trace Detection Potion and was released just before the Dragon Day event. The item works about exactly how players might guess. Using it will help players attract more Traces on the map. Just like with Incense spawns in PoGO, the Traces triggered by the potion will be unique to the player who used the item.

To help get players accustomed to the new potion, a free package is waiting in the in-game store with a single copy of the Potion inside. Here is the full list of the free items players will receive when they claim it:

1 Tonic for Trace Detection Potion

Ingredients to brew 1 Tonic for Trace Detection

10 Ingredient Capacity Increase

5 Potion Capacity Increase

5 Seeds/Water Capacity Increase

Although Incense isn't very popular in PoGO, that doesn't necessarily mean that the Trace Detection Potion will share a similar fate in Wizards Unite. We look forward to monitoring the community feedback and seeing whether this because a popular item or not in the coming weeks or at the next Wizards Unite Community Day event.
