In Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, there is a lot left for players to discover on their own and plenty of things that are explained upfront. Most of the key mechanics in the mobile feature a tutorial system that includes voice acting from the Harry Potter film actors and plenty of familiar characters. Perhaps the most important feature in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is the inn.

Anyone who has played Niantic’s other popular mobile game, Pokemon GO, will recognize inns as Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’s version of Pokestops. Inns are set up at landmarks around a city or town and they can be visited every 5 minutes.

When a player in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite visits an inn they will be asked to perform a very basic spell (tracing over the screen with their finger) and then five dishes will appear with a cloche over the top. One of these dishes will be rewarded to the player at random and the meal underneath will restore some spell energy.

How Do Inns Work in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Visiting inns is important in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite because without spell energy a player cannot engage with the mobile game’s core gameplay. Think of it like Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’s version of Pokeballs, but there is only one variety.

Every time a player engages in a battle or casts a spell on a Confoundable they will use spell energy, and they can only hold 75 at a time (without spending gold on more). So replenishing spell energy is very important to keeping the gameplay loop going.

Each time the player visits an inn, the meal will restore some amount of spell energy depending on the type of meal. Tomato soup, for example, will only reward 1 spell energy, but a Turkey Dinner will reward 10 spell energy.

Players that want to seek out the most rewarding inns in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will focus on Blue, Green, and Purple Inns. Granted, these inns can still reward low spell energy meals, but they also are the only place to get high spell energy meals as well. Here is a full breakdown of the meals in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and which inns they are available at:

  • Tomato Soup (1 Spell Energy) - Brown Inn, Purple Inn
  • Tea Set (2 Spell Energy) - Brown Inn, Pink Inn
  • Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Bean (2 Spell Energy) - Green Inn
  • Pumpkin Juice (2 Spell Energy) - Purple Inn, Blue Inn
  • Violet Pudding (3 Spell Energy) - Pink Inn
  • Bangers and Mash (5 Spell Energy) - Purple Inn
  • Honeyduke's Chocolate Bar (6 Spell Energy) - Green Inn
  • Fish and Chips (6 Spell Energy) - Brown Inn, Blue Inn
  • Butterbeer (7 Spell Energy) - Blue Inn, Purple Inn
  • Turkey Dinner (10 Spell Energy) - Green Inn

How to Use Dark Detectors

In addition to visiting inns to regain spell energy, they are also useful for planting Dark Detectors. These items can best be likened to the lures in Pokemon GO, and will make it so Confoundables appear around the inn for 30 minutes. Using a Dark Detector is best saved for when you are hanging out near an inn, or if you’re lucky enough to live close by one.
