The Harry Potter series is full of interesting characters. Of course, there's Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) himself. Yet there are also secondary characters that are just as intriguing as Harry. From his best friends, Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) to his teachers Professor McGonagall  (Dame Maggie Smith) and Headmaster Professor Dumbledore (Richard Harris/Michael Gambon), the secondary characters of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter never fail to impress.

From Harry's eventual love Ginny Weasley (Bonnie Wright), to his good friend Luna Lovegood (Evanna Lynch), these impressive characters enchant many fans. These secondary characters are, therefore, just as crucial to the story as Harry himself. These compelling secondary characters make the world of Harry Potter what it is. Imagine Harry's life without Ron and Hermione. What a sad story that would be! Or imagine the Wizarding World without Dumbledore.

Bet that's difficult. These secondary characters in the world of Harry Potter, therefore, affect the story on some level.  They also have their effects on Harry as a person. Harry is not the only intriguing protagonist in the Wizarding World. But that's actually a good thing. The characters that make up the Wizarding World are also one element that keeps people coming back to the story. Characters are who fans can root for. Characters give fans a greater emotional connection to the story. And the secondary characters of Harry Potter deserve a ton of appreciation. Definitely as much as Harry himself, if not more.

Whether it's Ron and Hermione's loyalty to their friend Harry, Professor McGonagall's witty nature, or Ginny's fierce love, all of these characters add something to the Harry Potter universe. Because of secondary characters such as Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) and Dumbledore, Harry stays with the Dursleys. That is where his story starts. Harry's life probably would have been a lot simpler if he had grown up in the Wizarding World, but would he be safer? Possibly not. Dumbledore is a smart person, after all. He knows what he's doing. Although nothing excuses the Dursleys' treatment of Harry, or Dumbledore allowing it, it could be a relatively small price to pay. After all, if Harry remained safe, it is because he was in the Muggle world. Voldemort would probably have found him easily if he remained with any wizards.

Who would Dumbledore trust to take care of Harry? No, perhaps it's better if Harry remains with the Dursleys. And once Harry does get to Hogwarts, secondary characters influence him even more. Everyone knows that Harry wouldn't have gotten far without Ron and Hermione. He is equally affected by characters such as Luna, who gives him hope in a dark time. Professor McGonagall's wit also amuses Harry –and fans. Harry marries Ginny, who is definitely a secondary character for much of the series. However, she's no less compelling for that. The secondary characters get about as much development as Harry himself. And that's definitely a good thing.

The more well-developed a character is, the better they are, after all. And the secondary characters in Harry Potter are definitely well-developed. They grow and change just as much as Harry does. And fans get to watch them grow and change. By doing so, fans get even more emotionally involved in the story. And that is key for any story's survival. Fans need to care about the characters. To get involved in their world. To want to see them grow and change into whoever they become. And the Harry Potter series definitely succeeded on that front.

The fact that the secondary characters are so compelling just makes the story better. Of course, not every Harry Potter fan will agree. Some will prefer to focus on Harry himself. In comparison, others will have different reasons for appreciating these secondary characters. However, many fans would probably agree that the secondary characters are intriguing. A lot of them affect Harry himself on a deep level. And therefore, these characters also affect fans. Harry Potter fans are lucky with all of these compelling characters. They also allow fans to relate to them if they can't relate to Harry himself. Some fans might feel more like Ron or Hermione or Luna or Neville.

Whatever character one relates to, there's definitely something for everyone in the world of Harry Potter. And that's definitely great. It gives fans options for which characters they focus on. Fortunately, these secondary characters exist. Harry's life –or the life of his fans – would not be the same without them. They allow the story to truly soar to new heights. And that's definitely positive. The secondary characters of the world of Harry Potter also allow some fans to appreciate Harry even more. Compared to characters like Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), Harry is perfect.  He absolutely looks better. And that's for the best.
