One of the worst kept secrets in the gaming industry these days is the Harry Potter RPG, a game which is highly anticipated even though Warner Bros Interactive has yet to even mention its existence. Most news has come from leaks and speculation, as well as assurances from sources within the gaming industry like journalist Jason Schreier. While most fans are hoping for a massive open world where player created witch or wizard can roam around, that dream may be more of a reality than most thing thanks to the developer working on the title.

According to a new report, the upcoming Harry Potter RPG is currently in development with Avalanche Software, a studio probably best known for its work on the Disney Infinity series of games including the well received Toy Box game modes. Even though the information comes from two anonymous sources who are currently working on the game, it should be said that fans should still take the information with a grain of salt until WB officially confirms it.

Along with the DC games rumored to be in development at WB Montreal and Rocksteady, Harry Potter remains the other high profile title in the works for Warner Bros. The sources go on to confirm that the game remains on track for release late in 2021 even with all of the current challenges in the world like the global pandemic as well as the backlash facing the creator of the Wizarding World, J.K. Rowling. With such a late release next year, fans shouldn't be surprised to learn that the Harry Potter RPG is also planned for release on the next generation of consoles.

Earlier this month, a new leak seemingly revealed a ton of new details regarding the game, giving many fans additional hope that the anticipated title would be announced in the weeks to come. While that has yet to happen, most have begun to look towards the planned FanDome event later this summer which is a virtual event for DC Comics. The leak indicates the game's official title is Hogwarts: A Dark Legacy and players will be creating a student enrolled at the school going up against a former Death Eater in the years after the final Harry Potter novel.

Another large piece of news hanging over the development team is the fact that AT&T is looking to sell Warner Bros Interactive, which includes its many studios like NetherRealm, Rocksteady, and the aforementioned Avalanche Software. With a large debt still to pay off, AT&T is looking to earn as much as $4 billion from the sale as well as include a commercial licensing agreement which would enable AT&T to continue to earn money on the IPs. Interest has reportedly come from companies like EA, Activision, and Take-Two, though nothing has been finalized at this point in time.

The Harry Potter RPG is currently in development with an expected release sometime late in 2021.
