Ever since footage of the Harry Potter RPG leaked online, the game has been an open secret in the industry. While not officially announced, the Harry Potter game's existence has now been confirmed, and not only that, it will reportedly be launching on both next-generation consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

This is according to a new report from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, a noted industry insider with a reputation for accurate leaks and having reliable sources. In his latest report, Schreier confirmed the Harry Potter RPG release window to be late 2021, and that the game will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Schreier's report doesn't name-drop the PS4 or Xbox One, so it's possible that the Harry Potter RPG is next-gen exclusive, but the report does say "platforms including the upcoming Sony Corp. PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Corp. Xbox Series X," which does seem to imply that current-gen versions are on the way as well.

However, a lot can change between now and when the Harry Potter RPG launches in late 2021. It's possible that fans will flock to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, giving both consoles a high enough install base that it may make more sense to just focus on the next-gen versions of the game. Not only that, but the other platforms could be in reference to PC and Stadia as opposed to current-gen hardware.

Unfortunately, Harry Potter fans won't know for sure what platforms the new RPG is coming to until Warner Bros. decides to reveal more information, and there's no indication of when that might be. Rumors were that the Harry Potter RPG was going to be revealed at Warner Bros.' planned E3 2020 event, but that was canceled by the coronavirus pandemic, throwing the company's game reveal plans into chaos. And some other recent developments make things even less clear when it comes to the Harry Potter RPG.

Reports indicate that AT&T is looking to sell off Warner Bros.' game division, which would include Avalanche Software and the in-development Harry Potter RPG. How exactly this would impact the Harry Potter RPG remains to be seen, but it's safe to say that it could have a profound effect on the game's development and available platforms.

Until some official information comes out about the Harry Potter RPG, all fans can do is speculate. So even though the game isn't due out until late 2021, hopefully some more information comes sooner rather than later.

Harry Potter is rumored to be in development for PS5, Xbox Series X, and other, unspecified platforms.
