When the Harry Potter RPG leaked back in October 2018, it promised fans would finally get their chance to become a Witch or Wizard, go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, craft potions, master spells, discover fantastic beasts, and battle Dark Wizards. However, it made no mention of the many extraordinary magical objects that would be incredible to interact with. There's definitely a few that would be great to see in the Harry Potter RPG, while keeping in mind that each magical object needed to exist in the game's rumored 19th-century setting.

The Founders of Hogwarts

Each of the four founding members of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry had an iconic object to signify them, most of which were later destroyed by Harry Potter after Voldemort used them as Horcruxes. Godric Gryffindor had the magical Sword of Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw had her Diadem, Helga Hufflepuff had her Golden Cup, and Salazar Slytherin had his Locket. In a Harry Potter RPG, there's no way that players wouldn't be sorted into one of the four Hogwarts Houses, so what if players had to complete a side-quest where they need to locate the house heirloom? The mission could go through the history of each house and unlock exclusive abilities, items, and locations that other houses won't experience to make the experience truly unique.

The Sorting Hat

harry potter rpg sorting hat explained

As previously mentioned, in a Harry Potter RPG, being sorted in one of the four Hogwarts Houses would be as an important as choosing a class, race, or gender in Destiny 2, World of Warcraft, or Cyberpunk 2077. The Sorting Hat is a fascinating magical object that's unique to Hogwarts, and the only way for students to be sorted into houses. There's a few ways the Sorting Hat may work in the RPG but in short, players could run through personality questions and be sorted with a cutscene. The player's house could then unlock exclusive content such as house common rooms, companion characters, side-missions, and so on. While the main story and gameplay would be the same, a Gryffindor and a Slytherin shouldn't have the same overall experience.

Cloak of Invisibility

Harry Potter's Cloak of Invisibility is a family heirloom, a Deathly Hallow, and one of the most fascinating magical objects there is, so it's safe to say that it's not something that just anyone could get hands on. However, it's not the only object of its kind to exist and there are very few dates of the Potter family tree after the family first got the Deathly Hallow, meaning it wouldn't be too hard to fit some type of cloak into the Hogwarts timeline during the 19th-century. An object like this one has near-unlimited gameplay potential and would be worth the inclusion purely for the creative level design that could come from it.

The Mirror of Erised

The Mirror of Erised is a magical mirror that first appeared in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and shows "deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts." Depending on how deep WB Games player-choice system goes, the Mirror of Erised could be used to shows the impact that player's choices have on the world, i.e. their desire changes depending on morality and choice. RPGs love to give players choice and morality options but rarely show how each decision affected the larger world.

Unfortunately, we don't know the exact date of its creation, only that it was before the end of the 19th-century, so this one could be a little tricky but definitely worth it. Nobody knows who created the Mirror of Erised (desire backward) or how it got to Hogwarts in the first place - meaning it's entirely plausible that it could have been at Hogwarts before the end of the 19th Century.

Time-Turners

Like the Cloak of Invisibility, WB Games needs to feature Time-Turner's in the Harry Potter RPG because of what they could add to mission design. Allowing players to travel back in time for a set period of time during a mission is a lot of fun, just look at 'The Clockwork Mansion' mission from Dishonored 2 or 'Effect's and Cause' from Titanfall 2. Sure, it would have to limited to specific missions but that's ok if the missions are done right in the Harry Potter game.

There are multiple types of time-turners with varying types of restrictions, however, the most common one used has a one hour-reversal charm that allows the user to travel back in time by exactly one hour, and up to five hours before serious harm occurs to the Witch or Wizard. Despite having no information of their inception, we know that experiments on time-travel past five hours was entirely abandoned by 1899, meaning their creation and existence would perfectly fit within the Harry Potter RPG's setting.

Pensieve

The Pensieve is a must-have magical object in the Harry Potter RPG purely for how it could expand the world and lore through the game's collectibles. In the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the Pensieve is used to extract memories from someone's mind and relive (rewatch) them. Memories could easily fit the role of Collectibles in an open-world Harry Potter RPG, creating multiple sets of memories that serve as different storylines, and forcing players to complete each set in order to get the full story.

Harry Potter

Warner Bros. was rumored to have been planning its very first E3 Press Conference at E3 2020, where the publisher would finally announce the long-rumored Harry Potter RPG, WB Montreal's upcoming Batman game, and the next game from the creators of the Batman Arkham series, Rocksteady Studios. While the COVID-19 global pandemic ultimately led to the cancellation of events like E3, there's still plenty of time left in Geoff Keighley's Summer Games Fest for the Harry Potter RPG to be revealed potentially including next week's PlayStation 5 reveal.
