The release of the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts proved that the loyal, die-hard fans know all - perhaps even more so than the producers themselves. After the special premiered on HBO Max, fans were quick to notice an error involving Emma Watson and Emma Roberts.

The famous Harry Potter trio made their long-awaited return back to Hogwarts, but it’s clear from a photo slip during the HBO Max special that fans never left. To kick off 2022 with the perfect amount of nostalgia, Daniel Radcliffe, Watson, and Rupert Grint reunited for the first time since the last chapter of the Harry Potter films series wrapped back in 2011. As the three young childhood stars spent their entirety growing up on screen and on set, the producers thought it would only be right to include some cute baby photos.

A fan spotted what they perceived as an obvious mistake - a baby photo of Roberts was replaced with what should have been an image of a younger Watson. Harry Potter fans don’t play around, to the level that one of them was able to tell upon first glance that this was not a photo of Watson as a young child. This goes to prove just how much time audiences spent growing up alongside the three iconic stars, to the point where fans can differentiate their face in old photo books like a long-lost relative. The fan took a screenshot of young Roberts during the reunion special, and Roberts herself was quick to share the mishap onto her Instagram story as well, bringing in confirmation.

Shortly after, the producers were very quick to admit to their mistake. They stated to Entertainment Weekly, “Well spotted Harry Potter fans! You brought an editing mistake of a mislabeled photograph to our attention. New version up shortly.” The producers seemed to sort of play off the editing error as a scavenger hunt for hardcore fans to solve, but just how common is this sort of error?

Hollywood is no stranger to having multiple Chrises, Jennifers, and of course Emmas. However, Watson is possibly one of the most famous childhood stars in the world. Harry Potter will without a doubt forever be regarded as legendary. Either way, fans have reinforced that their dedication to Hogwarts is stronger than ever and their love for the franchise has remained unflinching throughout the years.

In the reunion special, Watson spoke to the magic of Harry Potter and what about it draws so many people in. She stated, “There’s something about Harry Potter that makes life richer. When things get really dark and times are really hard, stories give us places we can go, where we can rest - feel held.”
