Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is a brand-new Harry Potter video game based on the fictional sport from the franchise. Quidditch is a Wizarding World sport where contestants fly on brooms and attempt to catch the elusive Golden Snitch. It's featured prominently in the Harry Potter books and movies, but it was unfortunately absent from the recently released open world Harry Potter action-RPG Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy gave a story reason for Quidditch's absence, but that didn't stop fans from wishing the sport was in the game. There is evidence to suggest that Quidditch was planned for Hogwarts Legacy at one point during development but was ultimately scrapped, so some fans have hope that it will be added to the game as DLC or featured in a potential sequel. But while the jury is still out on whether Hogwarts Legacy will ever incorporate Quidditch or not, fans of the franchise can get their Quidditch fix for a new online multiplayer game about the sport.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is described as a "fast-paced, online multiplayer game" that's been in development for "several years." The primary developer on the project is Unbroken Studios, which is also known for assisting Rocksteady on the development of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Like other Harry Potter video game projects, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is being released under the Portkey Games label. An official release date is not available at the time of this writing, but those interested in participating in the game's limited playtest for April 21 to April 22 can click here to sign up. A proper trailer has yet to be released, but there's some CG footage on the sign-up page that may hint at the game having a cartoonish art style.

How to Sign Up for Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions Playtest?

Unfortunately, no gameplay footage of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is available at the time of this writing, and other details on the project remain scarce. We do know that the game is aiming for release on PC and consoles, though the exact consoles aren't specified. When one tries to sign up for the playtest, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X consoles are mentioned, but that doesn't mean that the game will actually be coming to all those platforms, so fans should keep that in mind. It does seem as though Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is a bit more ambitious than the Harry Potter mobile game projects, but again, fans will have to wait for more information to be sure.

Besides the fact that the game is a competitive, online multiplayer take on Quidditch, the only other gameplay detail known is that players will be able to create and customize their own character. The extent of the game's character customization is a complete mystery at this point, but the Hogwarts Legacy character creation system was very impressive, so hopefully Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions follows suit. Fans can expect more information on the game to come to light in the days and weeks ahead.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is in development for PC and unspecified consoles.
