Within the next couple of weeks, the especially long Year 4 in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is expected to come to a close. Some Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players may be wondering what Year 5 has in store, and while there will certainly be some surprises, we already have a pretty good idea about some of the content fan scan expect to see added to the game with its next big update.

Here is what's coming in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Year 5.

New Classes

While Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players don't get to see their Defense Against the Dark Arts class actually play out on screen, we do know from dialogue that the class is taking place behind the scenes. Year 5 will finally add Defense Against the Dark Arts as a playable class, which will presumably consist of as players tapping on-screen objects, just like any other class in the game, in exchange for various rewards.

The only question is, who will be the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in Year 5? We don't know any Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers prior to Quirinus Quirrell, who was the teacher when Harry Potter went to Hogwarts. Hogwarts Mystery has been known to break established canon, but revealing the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher could actually end up being a rather significant revelation for fans of the franchise.

Another class that players will have to look forward to in Year 5 is History of Magic. This class is located right next to the Herbology Classroom, and will be taught by the ghostly Professor Binns.

New Locations

One new location coming in Year 5 is the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, but there will be more new locations for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery fans to explore than just that. The Kitchens in the Dungeons will be unlocked, as will the Grand Staircase found in Lower Floor - West.

Outside of the castle itself, players will be able to go to the Hog's Head Inn when they visit the wizarding village of Hogsmeade. Plus, they will have a brand new major location to explore as well in the form of Diagon Alley, assuming Jam City keeps to its pattern of adding one new major location per year.

Below are all the new locations coming to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery in Year 5.

  • Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom (East Towers)
  • Grand Staircase (Lower Floor - West)
  • Kitchens (Dungeons)
  • History of Magic Classroom (Lower Floor - East)
  • Hog's Head Inn (Hogsmeade)
  • Diagon Alley

Achievements

Some Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players already have the game's first achievement available to them, but it seems like everyone else is going to have to wait until at least Year 5. The achievement in question is tied to becoming a Prefect, with players able to earn five gems on top of getting the achievement and presumably access to the Prefects' Bathroom as well.

Dating and Quidditch?

Many Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery fans expected dating to be added to the game in Year 4, since there was dialogue that heavily suggested as much. However, Year 4 is nearly done, and we still haven't seen any romance options added to the game. With that in mind, a recent survey sent to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Insiders has confirmed that Jam City is at least considering the feature still, so it may very well come in Year 5.

Besides dating, the survey also touched on other features that could potentially be added to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery in future updates, like post-school careers and Magical Creatures.

Besides the content listed here, it's possible that Jam City will add even more to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Year 5. Ultimately, fans will just have to wait and see what's in store when Year 5 finally added to the game.
