As expected, developer Jam City added Year 5 Chapter 2 to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery in yesterday's update, giving fans the chance to complete new story chapters, classes, and more. After having played through Year 5 Chapter 2 ourselves, we can confirm that it is a five step chapter, and Jam City didn't secretly add any additional chapters like it has sometimes done in the past. Please note that this article will have some spoilers for Year 5 Chapter 2 in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.

In Year 5 Chapter 2, the player character, Merula Snyde, Penny Haywood, and Bill Weasley are working together to try to find Penny's missing sister Beatrice. Unfortunately, by the end of the chapter, we don't get any answers as to Beatrice's whereabouts, but Merula shows up and declares that she's found the missing girl.

This latest update is interesting for a few different reasons. For one, it gives players another chance to duel the spider boss out in the Forbidden Forest, and it also shines a spotlight on Merula Snyde. The greater focus on Merula this year seems to indicate that she is going to become a true friend of the player character by the time it's all said and done, though that may actually put her in more danger than she would be in otherwise.

Another reason why the Year 5 Chapter 2 update is interesting is because it doesn't tack on any more overall chapters to the year. As it stands, Year 5 still only shows a total of seven chapters for players to complete, and just a handful of classes. This could mean that Year 5 is set to be the shortest year in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, but it could also simply be an indication that Jam City hasn't quite nailed down how long Year 5 is and all of what it will entail.

Honestly, it could be a good thing if Year 5 is shorter than the rest of the years in the game. It will help the story move along at a faster pace without as much filler, and it will help players learn the truth about some of the game's lingering mysteries without having to wait months to do so.
