Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players have to do a lot of waiting to get to Year 2 in the game, but once they get there, they will find a number of key differences between it and Year 1. For those Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players who have reached Year 2 in the game, here is everything that is different.
New Locations
Perhaps the biggest difference between Year 1 and Year 2 is that players have access to more areas in Hogwarts. This includes the Hospital Wing, which can be found at Lower Floor - West. Upon first entering the Hospital Wing, though, players will find it empty except for Madam Pompfrey.
Additionally, Dumbledore's Office is also technically available in the West Towers upon reaching Year 2, though there's a catch. Players can only enter Dumbledore's Office by invite-only, so they will need to wait for story developments to take place that will let them enter.
Upon reaching Year 2, players will also have an entire new floor of the castle to explore called Lower Floor - East. Lower Floor - East is home to the Transfiguration Classroom, where players are taught by Minerva McGonagall (with Dame Maggie Smith reprising the role), who also serves an integral role in the story for Year 2.
Free Energy
Like the other floors in Hogwarts, Lower Floor - East has its own free energy reserve that players can collect every few hours or so. To find it, players need to turn their attention to the stone bench situated between the Library and the History of Magic Classroom. A pile of books can be found lying on the bench, and players simply need to tap it to get their free energy. Once the books are in disarray again, that means players can tap them for even more free energy later on.
New Classes
In Year 2, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players have a lot more classes to take. Not only will they be able to take Potions, Charms, and Flying, but they will also have Transfiguration class as well. Below is a list of the new potions, spells, abilities, and rewards players can earn through their Hogwarts classes for Year 2:

- Strengthening Solution (+5 Gems)
- Fire Protection Potion (+5 Gems)
- Swelling Solution (+5 Gems)

- Engorgio (+5 Gems)
- Incendio (Usable in dueling)
- Episkey (Usable in dueling)
- Reducio (+5 Gems)
Flying
- Fast Laps (+1 Energy Limit)
- Weaving (+1 Energy Limit)
Transfigurations
- Revelio (+5 Gems)
- Reparifarge (+5 Gems)
- Reparo (+5 Gems)
- Porcupine to Pin Cushion (+5 Gems)
- Spongify (+5 Gems)
New Friends
In their first year at Hogwarts, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players will have met and be friended the likes of Rowan Khanna, Ben Copper, and Penny Haywood. In Year 2, players can add Bill Weasley (a fourth year student during the Year 2 section) to their list of friends. Like their other friends, players can level up Bill to earn rewards like the ability to take him on certain quests and free gems.
House Cup
Earning house points and winning the House Cup in Year 2 functions basically the same as it did in Year 1, but the reward for getting 1st place is greater. Whereas in Year 1, players earned 100 gems for winning the House Cup, they will earn a whopping 125 gems for winning it in their second year. Remember that winning the House Cup boils down to doing well in classes and avoiding the wrath of the various Hogwarts teachers.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players who have made it to Year 2 will find that although there are new locations to explore and new friends to meet, much of the game remains the same - and that means a lot of waiting to complete story objectives. So put those free 100 gems to good use if you want to make it through the story and see what Year 3 has to offer.
