Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery just received its Year 4 Chapter 12 update, which gives fans some new story content to complete. However, it appears as though some select players have gotten an additional, limited-time side quest as well, though it's unclear why those players were selected.

It's no secret in the community that Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery has an Insiders program and tests certain features with some players before releasing them to everyone. However, Reddit users who have the limited-time side quest, called Charms and Potions, claim they aren't part of the Insiders program, and there doesn't appear to be any specific reason why they were selected to try it out.

From what we can tell, the limited-time side quest just tasks players with completing classes (a Charms class and a Potions class), without having any significant impact on the game in terms of story. Players are given some extra rewards for completing the limited-time side quest though, earning coins after completing Part 1 and earning gems after completing Part 2.

Since Jam City seems to have selected users at random to try Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery's first limited-time side quest, it's hard to say when the quest will be available to everyone else. Perhaps the studio is just testing it with a small group of players for now, and plans on releasing it to the masses with the next update, which will presumably come next Thursday. Then again, maybe Jam City is releasing the side quests in waves, releasing it in different regions at different times.

Regardless of the way Jam City is releasing the limited-time side quest, hopefully it comes to all Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players sooner rather than later. The side quest will help players earn even more rewards on top of the basic experience points and attribute points they get from doing classes, plus it will make getting crests in the Fun in the Sun event more worthwhile.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
