In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, players have the chance to duel against their friends and enemies. Most of the duels are fairly straightforward affairs that require little strategy, but there a couple of them can be rather challenging. For example, there is a point near the end of Year 3 where players duel Voldemort (or at least, a boggart pretending to be Voldemort), and appropriately, he serves as the toughest boss fight yet.
Voldemort tends to use stamina draining spells that will hurt Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players over the course of multiple turns. This can be rather devastating, especially if players keep losing stance match-ups. The trick to this is to counter Voldemort’s damage with a Defense stance and cast healing spells, particularly ones that heal over time. Later in the duel, when player stamina may be low, it’s better to use the Episkey spell for an instant medium heal instead of healing over time, however.
Once players have their healing covered, the next step is dealing damage to Voldemort. To deal the most damage possible, players should use the Aggressive stance spell Incendio, which has a chance of dealing large amounts of damage over time. This combination of healing over time and damage over time spells should give players their best shot at defeating Voldemort, though there is quite a bit of luck involved as well.
For those unaware, the dueling in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is governed by a rock, paper, scissors system. Aggressive stances beat Sneaky stances, Sneaky stances beat Defensive stances, and Defensive stances beat Aggressive stances. There is an air of randomness to the proceedings, but character personalities can offer a clue as to how they will duel. For example, in our experience, Voldemort mainly stuck to Aggressive spells, meaning we were healing with Defensive stance spells a lot more than we were dealing damage with Aggressive stance spells.
The duel against Voldemort, or rather the Voldemort boggart, stands as one of the tougher battles in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. However, with years 4, 5, 6, and 7 still on the way, one has to imagine that even greater dueling challenges are right around the corner.
