Despite having a frustrating microtransaction system, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery seems to have found a core audience, thanks to nostalgia and a love of the iconic witching and wizarding world. Before players race off to Hogwarts and start earning house points, they'll want to make sure they are equipped with the right wand to match their destiny.

Just like in the novels, one of the first stops after receiving a Hogwarts letter is the wand shop. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players will visit Ollivanders and answer a series of questions about the player character and their brother's disappearance. The emotional response to the second question will determine which wand is right for your character's personality and motivations.

At this point, it doesn't seem like the different wands provide different gameplay experiences, but there is a trick to which answers to use if the player just really wants a certain wand. For gamers who have their hearts set on a certain wand, here is how to proceed...

Blackthorn Wand

This wand is 11 and three-quarter-inch with a unicorn core and is offered to players who choose “I was determined” as their answer.

Inflexible Hornbeam Wand

Selecting the “I was angry” reply will earn players this wand with a dragonstring core.

Acacia Wand

Players who answer with "I felt sorry for him" will walk out of the shop wielding this pliable 12-inch wand with a unicorn core.

In the game's beta, there was a fourth option (featured in the image above) for "I wanted answers." That choice led players to acquire an elastic 12-inch maple wood rod with a unicorn hair core. That wand seems to have been removed from the options, but we're not quite sure why.

That's all there is to it. The chosen wand may play into the story or mechanics further down the road, but at this point nobody has spotted confirmation of that.
