Since being released last month, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery has found itself the subject of several negative headlines. At first, reviews of the game slammed it for being so heavy on microtransactions and the criticisms only increased as fans discovered various plot holes in the game's story. Technical issues, including a glitch with the purchase of microtransactions, has also left fans feeling upset.

But unfortunately, it seems that these issues are not the only aspects of the game that Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players aren't happy with. This week, a player on the game's subreddit highlighted the game's limits on how much gold a player can hold at one time. According to a screenshot, the maximum gold limit is just 50,000 coins, which many players of the Jam City-developed mobile game say is surprisingly low.

In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, gold can be earned by completing chapters in the game's story as well as answering questions correctly during lessons. It means that players will quickly rack up a hefty pile of gold as they play. Although this gold can be spent on cosmetic items (e.g. new outfits for the player character) fans say the cosmetics that can be purchased with gold aren't worth spending money on and that they would like to spend it on replenishing energy points as well.

Players are unhappy because it means that there is a limit to how many rewards that they can earn from playing the game. This seems incredibly counterintuitive on Jam City's part and players are asking why the developer would put a cap on an in-game currency. Understandably, many other players are unhappy with the poor quality of cosmetics that they can purchase with gold as opposed to those purchasable with gems. They have called the developer to release updates to the list of available cosmetics so that the gold limit won't be an issue.

According to industry analysis firms, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery's microtransactions are making a lot of money, indicating that the game's technical and gameplay issues aren't impacting the game's bottom line. But just because the status quo is satisfying some, that doesn't mean that the developer should or will sit on its hands.

Jam City has already teased plans for major updates to the game, including the possible addition of multiplayer features. While these sorts of updates may not address all of the problems that players are unhappy with, they could be a stepping stone towards significantly improving the game to make all players happy.
