The latest update for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery added friend encounters to the game, but has also created sign-in issues for some players, specifically those who sign in to the game through Facebook. Luckily, Reddit user opalelement has discovered a fix for the problem, at least as it pertains to the Android version, anyway.

According to opalelement, the Facebook sign-in issue arises because Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is attempting to access players' Facebook friends list, despite it not having permission to do so. This creates a sign-in loop where it is impossible for some players to actually start up the game.

Affected players need to go to their Facebook app, go to Settings, Apps and Websites, and then select Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery from the list. If Public Profile is the only option that is highlighted, then a lack of permissions is indeed what is causing the problem. So then to solve the problem, players need to remove the app from Facebook entirely (ignore the warning about losing data - according to opalelement's own testing, nothing like this will happen), restart the app, and re-connect it to Facebook.

Eventually, it's probable that Jam City will release an update that fixes the sign-in issues. After all, the developer has provided consistent support for the mobile title since launch, adding new story content and addressing various problems that players have discovered in the game.

Plus, a serious sign-in issue like this may frustrate more casual players who won't seek out possible workarounds on the internet. And considering the ill-will towards the game, mainly aimed at its energy system and heavy use of microtransactions, the developers may want to avoid upsetting the dedicated fans they do have.

While a fix for this Facebook sign-in issue will likely come sooner rather than later, players can utilize opalelement's workaround in the meantime.
