Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery's latest update didn't add Year 5 Chapter 3 to the popular mobile game, but it did add a copule of new pets for players to adopt. As of the latest update, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery fans can add a pet dog to their roster of animal companions, as well as a magical creature that they previously encountered in Year 4.

The magical creature that players can now adopt in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is called a streeler. As its description states, a streeler is "a giant snail that changes color on an hourly basis and leaves a venomous trail." Whether or not the streeler players can adopt changes color or not remains to be seen, but it would be a nice touch that would help it stand apart from the other pets that are currently available.

Unlike other pets in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, players don't adopt the dog and streeler with gems. On the contrary, a brand new currency has been added called notebooks, that seem to only be available by participating in the new House Pride event. The House Pride event, for the uninitiated, is an event currently taking place in Hogwarts Mystery where players get rewards based on the number of house points they earn while the event is active. By fully completing the House Pride event, players can unlock a total of 15 notebooks.

Unfortunately, that is simply not enough to purchase both the dog and the streeler. In fact, that's not enough to purchase even one of the new pets. Each pet costs 50 notebooks each, meaning players will not have even close to enough notebooks to get one of the new pets by participating in the House Pride event.

In the future, it is possible that Jam City will add more ways that players can get notebooks in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. Perhaps there will be future House Pride events that unlock the notebooks, or maybe the notebooks will be purchasable through microtransactions. Whatever the case may be, it seems most Hogwarts Mystery players will have to go without either of the new pets in the meantime.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
