The latest Sony event not only revealed the price and release date of the PS5, but it also unveiled several new games that players should expect to see in the future. Among the games revealed at the event is Hogwarts Legacy, which is the long-rumored Harry Potter RPG that fans of the franchise have been waiting for.

Apart from the announcement that Hogwarts Legacy is in development and will release sometime in 2021, developer Avalanche Software also released the game's debut trailer, giving fans a preview of what to expect. However, one of the most important information that revealed at the trailer is that Hogwarts Legacy will be set in the late 1800s, which means that most Harry Potter characters will not be featured in the game. But, without the aid of any magical items such as time turners, there is one important figure in the Harry Potter franchise that could appear in Hogwarts Legacy, and this character is no other than Dumbledore.

Dumbledore's History

At the moment, it is unclear which specific decade in the late 1800s Hogwarts Legacy will explore. However, given that Dumbledore was born in 1881, there is a high chance that the game will feature the notable wizard in one way or another. Even if Dumbledore makes an appearance in the game, players should expect that he won't be the focus of Hogwarts Legacy, especially since during this time, Dumbledore is still yet to earn his reputation as one of the greatest wizards in history.

It is also worth remembering that Dumbledore attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry between the years 1892 to 1899, which is may just be one of the reasons why Avalanche Software chose the late 1800s as the game's primary setting. With this in mind, it is possible that players will be studying alongside Dumbledore at Hogwarts, which is an interesting perspective to explore given that Dumbledore is always seen as the great headmaster of the school in the Harry Potter franchise. But if Dumbledore will indeed appear in the game, how should he be depicted in Hogwarts Legacy?

How Dumbledore Cold Be Depicted in Hogwarts Legacy

At the moment, the primary story of Hogwarts Legacy is still unknown, and it is still unclear whether the game will be set during Dumbledore's time as a student at Hogwarts. Nonetheless, if Hogwarts Legacy will take place during the time of Dumbledore's attendance at Hogwarts, then Avalanche has plenty of opportunities to show a different side of the future Headmaster of Hogwarts. Throughout social spaces online, Harry Potter fans are already speculating on how Dumbledore will be depicted should the game feature him.

Some players speculate that it would be nice if the player's character would serve as some sort of a mentor to Dumbledore, playing a key role in the development of his personality and philosophy that helped him become the great Wizard that he is in the Harry Potter franchise. Others toyed with the idea of the player becoming a rival to Dumbledore, and to some extent, his bully, similar to how James Potter treated Severus Snape during their time at Hogwarts.

Apart from those speculations, it would be interesting to see how Avalanche Software would depict Dumbledore's personality as a student. As previously mentioned, Dumbledore went on to become one of the great wizards during the events of the Harry Potter franchise, but it would also be interesting to see him as a normal teenager going through normal teenage stuff. Will he be a know-it-all smarty pants similar to Hermione Granger? Or will he be carefree and clumsy like Neville Longbottom? Of course, that is for players to find out (hopefully) once Hogwarts Legacy releases sometime in 2021.

Hogwarts Legacy is in development for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
