This past Thursday came and went with no new story chapter added to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. Fans may be disappointed that they can't continue the main story just yet, but in the meantime, Jam City has added a new side quest for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players to complete while they wait for more substantial story content.

The new side quest is called Egg Hunt, and it revolves around a stranger trying to sell a dragon egg. Players can start the side quest by speaking with Charlie Weasley in the Great Hall, which makes sense, as Charlie eventually becomes a Dragonologist in the Harry Potter novel series that is set after the events of Hogwarts Mystery.

Speaking of the novel series, this side quest appears to be a nod to events that would occur a couple of years later in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. As fans of the novels and movies will recall, Hagrid ends up getting a dragon egg off a stranger, and that egg eventually hatches into the dragon named Norbert (later known as Norberta).

It appears that anyone who progresses to Year 5 in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery will have access to the Egg Hunt side quest. So unlike some other side quests that were available earlier in the year, like the Prefect quests, all Hogwarts Mystery players should eventually be able to complete Egg Hunt.

Taking a trip to the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery subreddit will reveal that many fans aren't happy about this side quest. More specifically, fans seem to be upset that Jam City failed to add any new story content on Thursday like it would normally do, and then added this side quest on Friday without mentioning anything to anyone. This lack of communication between Jam City and Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery fans has been one of the reasons why the game has been criticized, though there are other reasons as well.

In the past, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery has been criticized for having massive plot holes, using an especially restrictive energy system, and being stuffed with expensive microtransactions. In the future, it will be interesting to see if Jam City does anything to reach out to any fans that are disgruntled about the game's various controversies and lingering issues.
