Despite all of the recent controversies surrounding J.K. Rowling, the award-winning author's Harry Potter series remains to be one of the most popular franchises in the world. Those who grew up with the films are bound to have a special connection to the characters, particularly Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter, Rupert Grint's Ron Weasley, and Emma Watson's Hermione Granger. While their on-screen chemistry convinced us that they were the ultimate "friendship goals," one Harry Potter alumn says befriending the Golden Trio was harder than it seemed.

Evanna Lynch, the actress who played Luna Lovegood, spilled the details of her on-set relationships with Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson in a recent interview with Us Weekly. She admitted that meeting them for the first time was quite overwhelming - a surprising statement considering they seemed to mesh so well together on-screen. Lynch explained that she had been a massive fan of their work long before she joined the cast, so finally seeing them in person was almost too surreal for her. "I was very nervous around those three and intimidated by them," she added.

While her Harry Potter character Luna is known for being happy-go-lucky and generally unbothered by anything, Lynch said that she is quite the opposite. In fact, she revealed that she always felt a little anxious approaching her co-stars, so much so that she'd even rehearse the conversations she'd have with them in the car rides to the set. Though the conversations "never worked out" the way she planned, she does remember Watson being really nice and always making a lot of effort to make her "feel at home."

Lynch was featured in several memorable scenes with Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson, but there were countless times when it would just be the three leads working the camera and the rest of the cast would hang out somewhere else on the set. During those times, Lynch said her fellow co-stars would spend their spare time "getting to know each other" and "playing games" with each other. That said, she most likely built closer friendships with the supporting cast rather than with the three leads.

And that camaraderie persists today, a decade after Deathly Hallows Pt. II, the last Harry Potter film in the franchise, was concluded. According to Lynch, many members of the cast remain close, and they even have reunions from time to time. Perhaps one day they will all formally get together in the same way that the cast of Friends did.

WarnerMedia is reportedly eager to revive the Harry Potter franchise in some form. Perhaps a reunion is a sure way to success if the cast isn't up for another full-fledged film.

The Harry Potter collection is now streaming on HBO Max.
