10 "I hope you're pleased with yourselves. We could all have been killed — or worse, expelled."

Emma Watson as Hermione Granger

This quote from Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone shines an amazing light on who she is as a character. Hermione is the quintessential bookworm. She lives to learn and anything that could risk her education isn't worth that risk.

She delivers this quote right after they escape from Filch and find the trapdoor behind the locked door in the third floor corridor. This line is only improved by Ron's reaction when he says "she needs to sort out her priorities."

9 "I’ll be in my bedroom, making no noise and pretending I’m not there."

Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter

This quote from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets goes a long way in describing Harry's relationship with his family, the Dursleys. It's Harry's birthday, and like any other 12-year-old child, he should be celebrating with friends and family. Instead, the Dursleys are focused on themselves, and Harry is expected to spend his birthday alone in his room and being quiet so the Dursleys' guests don't know he's there.

The series uses Harry to demonstrate the ultimate dichotomy. At school, and in the wizarding world, he is the most famous wizard in history. Adored by many for his defeat of Voldemort and hated by others for the same reason. But, in the muggle world, he's just a boy whose aunt and uncle view him as a nuisance rather than family. It's sad, but it elevates the story.

8 "Why, dear boy, we don’t send wizards to Azkaban just for blowing up their aunts."

Robert Hardy as Cornelius Fudge in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

This quote from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is a rare good moment from Cornelius Fudge. The failed Minister of Magic tells this to Harry when he arrives at the Leaky Cauldron after accidentally inflating his Aunt Marge. Despite Harry's previous interactions with the ministry being less than pleasant when it comes to underage magic use, here Fudge tries to seem like a friend.

Of course, it's later revealed that Sirius Black, a man convicted of mass murder despite being framed, has escaped, and the Ministry believes Black is targeting Harry. This decision by Fudge goes a long way in helping set up Sirius Black's redemption narrative and the discovery of the actual perpetrator of the mass murder.

7 "Did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?"

Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter and Michael Gambon as Albus Dumbledore

This quote from Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has caused quite the backlash from the fan base. The version described in the book is vastly different from the version delivered in the film. But this is still a very important moment in the series as it symbolizes the transition from fun kids series to the darker young adult themes in the latter books and films.

In the book, Dumbledore delivers the line calmly. In the film, Dumbledore is screaming the line at Harry obviously upset. The book version is more inline with how J. K. Rowling wrote the character. Both versions still signal a darkened tone going forward.

6 "Just because you have the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have."

Emma Watson as Hermione Granger. Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter. Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley.

Hermione Granger delivers another humorous line at the expense of Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. She points this out to Ron after explaining the conflicting feelings Cho Chang has been having following the death of Cedric Diggory and her attraction to Harry Potter.

This line has a correlation to the perceived faster rate of maturation between girls and boys. It's believed girls mature at a faster rate than boys. This line demonstrates how Hermione and Cho are dealing with their maturation processes while boys, specifically Ron, may not be there yet.

5 "Not my daughter, you b*tch!"

Julie Walters as Molly Weasley

Molly Weasley delivered one of the funniest lines that you can absolutely imagine being said in the heat of battle during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This mother has sacrificed everything for her kids and has already lost a son in this very battle. She is not going to lose her only daughter.

Bellatrix Lestrange is one of the most iconic villains in this series and to see a housewife who spent her life raising kids step up to take down a murderer brings joy to readers and viewers. Molly Weasley finally gets her time to shine, something fans had been calling for as she served as the motherly figure Harry needed throughout the series.

4 "Yer a wizard Harry."

Robbie Coltrane as Rubeus Hagrid

With this line from Rubeus Hagrid in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry is finally introduced to the wizarding world. This quote sends the star of the series on his path to learn magic and eventually defeat the most evil wizard of all time. Hagrid serves as Harry's gateway into the story that fans love so dearly.

There are few quotes from the series that are as recognizable as this one. It's the quote used most often in the marketing for the film. It's the quote that essentially launched the series. There are very few quotes that stand up in the pantheon of the series like this one.

3 "If there is one thing Voldemort cannot understand, it is love."

Michael Gambon as Albus Dumbledore

Another quote from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Albus Dumbledore perfectly sums up what will be the major difference between Harry Potter and Voldemort throughout the series. One is surrounded by love despite losing his parents in a terrible way. The other turns on almost everyone who has shown him grace over the years because he doesn't understand love.

It's a wonderful lesson to learn. Love is the ultimate magic in the world. Everything Harry is able to accomplish in the series is due to love, whether it be the love of his parents, the Weasleys, Ron and Hermione, or Dumbledore. Voldemort does powerful things but at the end of the day, he has no concept of love and that is ultimately his undoing.

2 "I solemnly swear I am up to no good."

Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter. James and Oliver Phelps as Fred and George Weasley.

The line that gives us access to the Marauders Map is something that every fan of the series will surely recognize. Introduced by Fred and George Weasley in the third book, it sums up a lot of what Harry and his friends are doing at Hogwarts. It's also an excellent quote to describe Fred and George.

This is one that has been marketed very well in the years since the films came out. It can be seen on almost all Harry Potter merchandise. There are very few quotes that stand out quite like this one. It almost perfectly encapsulates the series.

1 "And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure."

Michael Gambon as Albus Dumbledore. Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter.

If there is one quote that sums up the entire Harry Potter series, it's this one by Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Dumbledore said this as the pair were going to look for the horcrux Dumbledore found in a cave where Voldemort once tortured children from his orphanage. The entire Harry Potter series is an adventure, but it can be something that causes issues for those seeking it.

While it was the perfect quote for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, it describes the entire series from Harry's adventures down the trapdoor in the first book to his trip to the Ministry of Magic to rescue Sirius following an implanted memory in the fifth book. There's not a better quote for this series.
