Harrison Ford dropped tidbits regarding his upcoming role as Thunderbolt Ross in Marvel Studios' Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts.

Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross was a character from the earliest days of the MCU (literally, since the first movie the character appeared in featured Edward Norton as the Hulk) and was played by celebrated actor William Hurt until the actor’s untimely passing in 2022 at the age of 71. This left fans wondering who, if anybody, would take on the role of the General responsible not only for the Hulk but for other such monstrosities as Tim Roth's Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), who becomes the Abomination.

Enter Ford, another man great at playing grizzled hard cases, to step up in Captain America: New World Order by taking on the role of the MCU's military man with the most questionable judgment in the world. During an interview with The Playlist, Ford was asked why he decided to join the MCU, which prompted a cheeky reply. “Hey, look, I’ve done a lot of things. I now want to do some of the things I haven’t done,” Ford said.

Captain America: New World Order, centered around Tim Blake Nelson's the Leader as the villain, has left fans wondering if Ford would take on the additional mocap work of the Red Hulk. The violent character is an alter-ego of Ross and was introduced to fans by killing Wendigo and Abomination in the comics. Ford's equally cheeky answer to if he’ll transform into the big red baddie: a silent zipping the lips motion.

It’s a typically Ford response, smart-alecky and vague and funny all at once, but it’s as good as any. When the question is, “Why take on this role?” the answer becomes, “Why not?” Ford fits the part and would join the world’s currently biggest franchises after leading the way in most of the world’s previous ones.

The upcoming movie is set to see Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) take on the role of Captain America after Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) passed the shield onto him at the end of Avengers: Endgame. After soul-searching throughout The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam took on the Captain America shield for good. But in a post-Blip, post-Hydra world in which S.H.I.E.L.D. is barely hanging on, everything is up for grabs. For Captain America, it will be a New World Order, indeed.

Captain America: New World Order is set to release in theaters on May 3, 2024.
