One of the most popular DC Comics-inspired shows on HBO Max is the adult animated series Harley Quinn, and now its fans are getting a Valentine's Day special. Since the episode is just a few weeks away, the series got a trailer showing off what viewers can expect.

HBO Max announced in October that the Harley Quinn Valentine's Day special was coming this year, though the official date wasn't revealed. The new Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine's Day Special trailer does divulge that the standalone episode will air on February 9 and shows some of the action that will take place.

The Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine's Day Special trailer shows that Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are still going strong as a couple. Based on the trailer, things between Harley Quinn and Ivy are better than ever. At the same time, several other DC characters in the show are on the lookout for romance, and at least a few of them appear to have found it. It's not just the good guys who can find someone special to share the romantic holiday with.

However, when Ivy and Harley Quinn get amorous, things go awry in a way that could only happen in this particular show. The Harley Quinn series has always leaned hard into the fact that it is an animated series specifically geared toward adults. That means the show has always had several people dying and graphic violence with body parts and blood splattering.

It's also never been shy about showing the characters having sex, and the sexuality of Harley Quinn and Ivy is central to the last few seasons of the HBO Max series. This time, that sexuality overflows as the two's powers and love combine to spread what looks like a "love spore" throughout Gotham City.

Once those spores hit the citizens of the city, it turns out that things end up cutting loose. The result is something that only the Harley Quinn series would even try when it comes to the annals of DC Comics shows. The trailer even shows that, in some ways, the special will turn some conventions of the show on its head, considering that this time around, Harley isn't the one who screwed up.

The Harley Quinn Valentine's Day special airs on HBO Max on February 9, 2023.
