Popular HBO Max adult animated series Harley Quinn has been confirmed to be getting a holiday special early in 2023. The project will be a welcome look back in on the beloved show in the wait leading up to the recently announced fourth season.

The Max Original Harley Quinn series is based on the popular DC comic villain turned antihero more commonly known for her time as the love interest of the Joker, Gotham City's Clown Prince of Crime and Batman's most iconic foe. The first two seasons of Harley Quinn became available on HBO Max in August 2020 after making the jump from the now defunct DC Universe video-on-demand service, and they focused on Harley Quinn's life after the dissolution of her abusive and occasionally life-threatening relationship with the Joker, with a periodically expanding group of characters that include confidante and eventual lover Poison Ivy, and a host of other minor antagonists from Batman's rogue's gallery.

Warner Media announced that Harley Quinn, concluded its third season recently, would be airing a new Valentine's Day special in February 2023. The special will be focused on the recently joined couple of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy spending their first Valentine's Day as an item together. The special is also set to follow the misadventures of the other members of Harley's friend group and likely more.

Harley Quinn Valentine's Day special will be a collaboration between Warner Bros. Animation, Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions, and Yes, Norman Productions, with Kaley Cuoco, Justin Halpern, Dean Lorey, Patrick Schumacker, Jennifer Coyle, and Sam Register attached as executive producers. While a holiday special is always a good entry point for new fans to join in on, the regular cast of voice acting talent will be reprising their roles, ensuring that there are no jarring vocal changes for fans of Harley Quinn to navigate. Cuoco will be especially central, with her role as the titular character's voice being one of her best performances on a list of enviable projects.

A Harley Quinn Valentine's Day special focused on the young couple at the center of the show is sure to excite fans and tide them over while more regular episodic content is still not available. While it is common knowledge that Harley Quinn season 4 has been greenlit with a new showrunner attached, it is still unclear exactly when the next set of episodes will air. However, the subject matter of the upcoming special is sure to reassure fans that the executives working on the show are keenly aware of the current interests of many fans.

While the Harley Quinn special is sure to be entertaining for everyone watching, some audience members might see the project as a distraction, instead looking forward to how the show will deal with the surprise Harley Quinn season 3 finale. Harley's surprising turn to heroics will be one of many interesting developments fans will be looking to the new showrunner to explore in the upcoming season of Harley Quinn.
